Full Version: How to Attach Plate

You generally engrave the metal plates then add a piece of acrylic adhesive double sided tape slightly smaller than the plate. 3M makes an incredible tape of this nature, and Specialty Tapes makes a very good one.

Just be sure that the area you place it on is cleaned of polish and mold release agent. I had a problem with plaque plates falling off a while back and realized that it was only on one batch of piano finish wood. It must have been a polish/wax left on the surface. Just when you think you know what you are doing, something jumps up and bites you, sigh.

Edit: Be absolutely certain of the centering before you press it into place. The tape is so good that it will ruin the plastic plate and bend the metal plate when trying to remove them. It can be successfully removed by wedging something under it and giving it a few minutes to start to release, then wedging it in farther. I use pencils.

With the laser ..... Flexibrass works great.. the laser cuts to the correct size and with acrylic double sided tape to afix.. Gold or silver plates.. I've seen medals with the process also.

All of our trophy plates are engraved/marked using our laser and Romark Flexibrass. We use either Brushed Gold/over black or Brushed Aluminum/over black. We buy it in quarter sheets and we have our supplier (JDS) apply the 3M film adhesive on the back. This is the only way to go. And, in most cases, it CAN be removed and re-positioned as necessary.

Thanks to all. I was leaning towards the Flexibrass but did not realize JDS would attach the adhesive. That sounds like the way I need to go since I can't engrave on brass, yet (but soon I hope). That will be another topic.
