Full Version: All Users\Documents folder

Howdy y'all!

I've never considered myself to be computer illiterate, but this has me throwing my hands up in disgust...

I'm installing (or rather TRYING to) Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0 (finally broke down and bought it). During the installation process, I get a Windows error message stating that I do not have access rights (or permission) to access the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe. This error halts the installation process, so I can't get this software installed.

When I used Windows Explorer to look at the folder, I found that I could not access the Documents folder. I get the big red "X" error message that says "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents is not accessible. Access is denied."

I'm running XP Home on this machine, and I'm logged in with Administrator settings. My other pc here also runs XP Home, and it doesn't have the "Documents" folder under All Users.

Anyone know what is supposed to be in that folder, and why I might be getting that error? My only thought is that some data might be corrupted. How can I get past this?

Any insight is much appreciated!

When I installed my Adobe Acrobat Pro v.6, it didn't go near that folder. It just set itself up in its own directory.

Are you going with the defaults for the installation or are you trying to change the target directory? Normally it puts the pdf's in the individual's document directory.....

It's installing the program to its default location, but it's trying to access that folder for some reason.

Beats the heck outta me...I can open/explore every subfolder except that one.

Have you looked on Adobe's site for a solution?

In my frustration, I failed to even THINK about going to the Adobe website for help. ARGH!!

Yes, the information on that site was exactly what I needed. Thanks to you, the program is now installed. Thank you so very much for your help!!

You're welcome.

If you use the PDF print drivers (allows you to print a PDF file from any application, which is not installed by default in my version 5) and you get a similar error (Can't write/access default user.....) simply re-install the print drivers using the Adobe installation disks. No need to re-install the whole application. I get that error every so often. They may have fixed that problem by now.
