That is about the same way I feel about bars and alcoholics..... keep pouring until they can't stand up and then throw them out in the parking lot to drive home....
Oh, almost forgot! Then the judges charge them with DWI instead of homicide and make them do community service.

People have different values and different opinions about the importance of things.
So true Pete, but we can usually have an idea of where a person is coming from by their past comments/behaviors. When you see the importance of things change like the wind with a person who prioritizes according to how well it suits his cause at any given time, it's rather irritating. You'll never be able to guess where they'll come from next.
After claiming freedom of speech for so long, this thread was closed to stop continued comments about a person in the industry, yet comments like the following are allowed to continue still. After all, it's freedom of speech!...copied from post on Apr 2nd.

Looks like Saddlesores has changed business's to the pfishing(sp?) business.
So as you asked earlier...what kind of person are we dealing with?
I saw the perfect description posted earler......One with situational ethics.
I thought it back then when I argued against the continued derogatory name calling & attacks on a certain member & I still think it now after what I've seen here.

Amazing that the "thread you love to hate" has now generated to 3-4 different threads.
Could we PLEASE keep it to one thread? This would make it easier to follow or ignore without being blindsided by a new version.

Looking at this from a newbie outsiders point of view , I think this thread should have been closed. It diminishes the forum , consists of unsubstanted and unproven allegations , is besmirching folks names and has devolved into a personality issue between members and a group type bash and is polarising it.
Despite free speech , it is counterproductive to the forums intent and doesnt enhance it at all.
Perhaps a hidden outside section which doesnt appear on the main forums folders/listings would be a more appropriate place for this type of stuff.

Brian,
Thanks for the update. Industry news, albeit of the worst kind.

Yeah...I agree it's bad news......At least it puts all the speculation to rest.
I wasn't sure if it should be in an industry news folder or here in this thread.....It may be worth posting in it's own thread as news....As some may have become disenchanted with this thread after all the back and fourth.
Thanks,
Brian Genrich

So now the question is, should he be forced out of the engraving community in disgrace, or is it OK that he does articles for EJ or other publications? Is he still to be thought of as an industry leader/teacher? There was a time, not too long ago, when he wouldn't show his face in public after such a conviction. What are your thoughts?

Brian,
May as well leave it here, (in this unmoderated thread), as placing it in Industry News, stands good potential for leading to another thread of this kind.

Thats a difficult one , If he has technical information to impart , I say grab it. He is named and shamed and has probably lost any personal respect that anyone had for him but that is another matter. He has been convicted and did serve so has deemed to have repaid his debt to society in the laws eyes. I don't think destroying him professionally will help anyone or anything.
I suppose it's up to the individual to apply whatever form of further "justice" or punishment they deem needed.

He was at Las Vegas. I had wondered then how things turned out. I will still read the EJ because I get good information from it.
Several years ago - 5 - I took a class that Steve taught on laser engraving - I decided then that he was not someone I would take another class from. He was very opinionated about some things then later recanted his statements in articles. He also was somewhat rude to people who asked questions or offered opinions during the class. There are a lot more knowledgable people in the industry that I would prefer to here speak or read an article from.
It may sound jaded but as an employer I would have a difficult time having someone who had been convicted of this type of crime work for me.
Rodney said it well enough.

Bobkat,
My thoughts on this subject can be found throughout this thread. My opinion hasn't changed, as a result of the outcome of Stephen's case.

The only upside to this IF there is any, is he was convicted of possessing photos and NOT accused of molestation, participation or taking the photos himself.
Not a pat on the back for him BUT it could have been MUCH worse.
