I'd also like to add... Don't be afraid to ask for donations... it might seem to the mods to cheapen what they're trying to do, but as a frequent reader I'd be happy to send a little to the poeple that help keep this site going. It would be different if this were a pay-site, I don't care for that route at this time, but I think you'd drum up enough for your present needs if you were to ask. Servers and everything associated with them cost money, we all understand that, and if you need a little monetary help keeping this site the way we seem to like it..........
Just my $.02

Harvey,
Is the "only" problem, no domain name currently points there? If so, you can access it directly by its address. A DNS, domain name server, is just a lookup table. Input a alphanumeric name and get out a numerical address. If someone knows what the address was you can enter that directly into your web browser. (As long as the old new site is still running at that address.)

Since beehive is using php, doesn't it have a mysql database associated with it? If it does, shouldn't you be able to backup the old posts and take them to a new server?
Yes that is absolutely possible.
I think Harvey mis-understood your question (or I did) and answered as if you were asking him if you could move it to another forum format. In that case (moving to a different forum software), it would be very, very difficult and could take months of programming time to make all the proper connections.

Cherie,
Yes I took it as asking about transferring to a new format. You are correct on both counts.
Ken,
If you know the IP address, or anyone else does, I may be able to get some info back over to here. I never looked for the IP address. Now that I think about it, I do not know how to look it up even for here.

Whoever set up the site should have the address.
For myself I registered a domain name with godaddy. I then choose a different company for hosting. When I signed up with the host they gave me the address. I then needed to enter that number in the godaddy system for the name to map properly. Whoever did this process should have the number. (It was supplied by the host.)
I use the addresses for my internal network, but I'm not sure how to get them for a site I'm visiting. I'm sure someone here will know. There should be a simple utility, don't know if it'll be present on windows.

That person is no longer responding. Do not read anything into this statement, just what it says. There could be millions of reasons.

The donation idea has been brought up before. I can only speak for myself in saying, it would make me feel kinda like a charity case or pan-handler.
I'd be much more comfortable in attaching a modest price tag.
Not to say we wouldn't appreciate the help. I'm not sure how much time David T. and Harvey spend in their contributions to the success of this forum. It's considerable, I'm sure.
As for myself, to be as active as I feel I must, it does cut into my "day job" which is the income producing side.
It's a tough issue. Many people feel that everything on the internet must remain free. I certainly wouldn't intend to send anyone packin' but that may be the reality. Without even mentioning a price, some people will bail, just because the "P" word has been invoked.

I did have one thought on the pay thing. The minimum that you can get web connectivity, being advertised heavily, turns out to be about $120 per year. [Just a random thought, no meaning really.]
I never really thought about that before. [Of course DSL is a lot more than that.]

I'm curious to see the approach.
($amount needed) / (# members) = $membership
or
($value?) * (# members) = $collected
Two very different philosophies

Ken,
I'm interested in all equations, though, the bottom line is, in order to get this site where we want it to go, "$" will be necessary.
Covering operating costs will be a good start, but I won't attempt to fool anyone; I see a very decent profit potential for myself and others.
Of course, as in any business, turning money back into the business, to benefit the membership is a given.
The pay concept will go over much easier if people consider their membership fee, more an investment, than a drain on resources.
If we can't make the members' fee seem insignificant, in comparison to the already-exisiting information on making your business more profitable, through money/substrate-saving tips, prudent business advice and the all-important 411/911 aspect of providing crucial information and emergency help, we'll have failed miserably.

You said....... " I'm curious to see the approach.

I agree that they are two different philosophies, but i think the ( $amount needed) / (# members ) = $membership is the way to go becuase the formula using value is flawed in that the repective VALUE of this forum is different for everyone. I find HIGH Value in it, others may not. The effort DD&H put into this is almost immeasureable.....and how does one put a value on THAT? So by my way of thinking....... amount/members = membership fee

And the membership fee, whatever it is, will have to be offset by our submitted vouchers for the UNBELIEVABLE amount of education and consultation we are having to provide to A RESIDENT OF THE STATE OF HAWAII !!

Chuck,
Yes that can take into account overhead, salaries, and profit.
The second approach is market driven. As to your comment on value, think basic economic curves for price vs unit sales, and maximizing income. (Some threads have discussed the pros/cons of joining various professional organizations.)
I suspect the second approach will be taken at the point in time when both are equal.

Rose,
You are in the right spot.
After evaluating the responses to the other forum software and considering the differences between it and the Beehive format, it was determined that the domain names be redirected to this format. The .biz and .org domains are both directed here now. Let us know if you are having any problems.

Just a quick comment/observation - the engravingetc.etc site does not forward to engravingetc.org site.
Although it does appear that the .biz site is 'mirroring' the .org site?
Same content, different icons.
Example, if you hit http://www.altatech.us it automagically forwards/redirects to http://www.altatech.biz
