You could also try calling Fred Schwartz, of Quality One Engravers, who is very familiar with New Hermes/Gravograph equipment.

My opinion is that Fred Swartz is the most knowledgable person concerning New Hermes machines.....even better than the company (nothing against the company intended)

The max value is determined by the table, vague memory that it is 1000 per inch. Negative numbers are forbidden.
The PLT file might control the Z up and down commands but not the depth of cut and the lift over the material. It is a specialized PLT format that they use.
Getting the software is useless without the dongle. The dongle will cost probably over $3000.
I am unfamiliar with the 9200 and 8000.
