Hey Joe!
Nice to see you back.....home.....Yes it's great to be back, but I think it is important to not that while more notice would have been nice, it was something the double D's needed to try....otherwise how would we ever have known?
I have a firm believe that if it's not broken, don't fix it, BUT if EVERYONE adhered to that we wouldn't have jet aircraft...or microwave ovens....or walked on the moon......so we had to try......
And now, for my next number We're OFF to see the wizard, the wonder wizard of EE, a whiz of a wiz if ever a whiz there was. If Ever and ever a whiz there was the wizard of EE is one because, because because becauuuuuuuuusssssse..... of the wonderful things he does.....
:) I DO miss the smiley faces though!

So what's the story David...Are we back here for good, or is this just a tease to an old junkie?

Chuck,
Version 0.5 of this software does have emoticons (technical name for smiley faces). The move to another server could include an upgrade. We have to tread lightly on that issue because of the challenges and unknowns that come with the transfer of data. Until then, :-).

There will be problems going to Version .5.
There have alterations made by Terry to get us around some problems, (like attachments locking us out if there was a space in the name), and other comfort improvements. I do not see a completely smooth transition if we implement an upgrade.
New is nice, comfortable is better. (Now why would I say that?)

David,
And here I thought the move was to get rid of Doug!

By the way, I'm also glad we are back here.

Brian,
Because of its simplicity, I'm a big fan of Beehive. As others have said, even upgrading to more current versions of Beehive can be problematic.
Noel set up v.5 briefly, before me made the decision to try vB, but it wasn't going to be easy to transfer our archived information over.
There were also some glitches for Mac users (me;).
We figured if it came to starting over, we'd go with a more "robust" forum software. I was highly impressed with some of the advantages of vB. The calendar feature was excellent, and as much as I've always felt "emotes" were unnecessary, I found they were very effective in doing what they were designed for.
No forum software changes in mind for now. If we decide to go with another, we'll set up a test site where forum members can give it a test drive, before committing to a permanent change.

Glad to hear it will be staying ith this format for the time being. I find it much easier to navigate.
Thanks,
Brian

Now that we have all swarmed back here to the Bee Hive. We can
continue our honey makin'. Without the sting of learning our way
around a new flower garden.
:) Heck I like making my own smiley faces! :0)
PS - Is there any rules about Chuck Burke singing - if not I think we
should make some. ;)

Brian,
If I have my way (which I seem to get;) any move to an upgrade of Beehive or another software, will need to be capable of retaining our current information.
I have no doubt we could quickly populate a new forum from scratch, but that option would be at the very bottom of my wish list.

If your confusion is over what this thread is all about, we made an abrupt move/remove to another style of forum software.
Only for a few days, but long enough to determine this software, despite it lack of whistles and bells, is best for our style of running a forum.

As CHUCK would put it
"HERE TODAY GONE TO MAUI"
I am glad this moving back and forth is done and we can move on. By the way what happened to the posts on the "New"/ "OLD" forum?

As far as I know they are in the bitbucket. I have no way of accessing that place anymore, no domain points to it.
I posted a reply about selecting cutter bits that went down to basics, beyond what is here. I spent a lot of time on it and wish I could have transferred it.
But the really good thing is that David listened to his gut, (much email between moderators, about 30 per day), and decided to come back here. We lost a few days of posts, but have the enormous benefit of all of the posts that are here.
If you see something missing that was there, ask again, it will get answered again and will be here permanently.
[Ahhhh, the comfort of home.]

Mike,
Noel Fields, the Admin. of the vB forum, would have the answer to that question. Before our scurrying back home, I made a sincere offer to Noel to keep the vB forum going through his www.dyesubbers.com web site.
As we saw, some people preferred the vB software, and it's fair to say Noel's dedication to online education hasn't diminished.
I hope he took my offer seriously.

David,
Since beehive is using php, doesn't it have a mysql database associated with it? If it does, shouldn't you be able to backup the old posts and take them to a new server?
Michael
