Full Version: Changing default text units

Hi Laserman,
Thanks for that. I run Corel 12 and even though I change it it still show s up as points in the text box. It's getting a bit frustrating trying to work it out. At present I'm converting the text to curves and getting the millimetres that way.

Regards
Dave

I think you're swimming up stream on this one. How about just changing your unit measurement on the toolbar to millimeters. That will give you the size of the text in mm (text will still be measured in points) as well as the length and height in mm.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for that. I've made the change however the miilimetres size is not an accurate reflection of the font size. (Which I need). If for instance you type in a v, it shows 20mm. If you type in a o, it shows 20.7mm. Not much of a difference I know, but it's critical in this particular operation. I think your right, trying to swim against the current. I wonder why they give you the option to change units and then not let it happen?

Thanks
Dave

Sorry three doesn't seem to be a solution. But where did you find the option to change--I must have overlooked it.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike
In Corel 12
Go to
Tools - Options - Text and at the bootom there is a box that lets you change the default units.

Hope this helps

regards
Dave

Thank you very much. I have v.11 and it's there too.

Same place on X3 also.

Were you able to change to mm? In version 11 I was able to change the text size in mm by changing the setting in options. When you do that it still defaults to points on the tool bar but if you highlight the text then go to text, format text, you'll notice that the size is in mm and you can change it there.

A peculiar quirk but it should solve your problem.

thanks for your previous tip.
Mike

Hi Mike.
I just doing what you suggested and came up with the following.

Typed in lower case v at 270points which shows up as 49.4mm in the height box.
When I go to Text - Format Text the height in mm shows up as 95.25mm. I then drew a box at 50mm height (to check which measurement was right and low and behold it was the height in the height box 49.4mm. I've got no idea how the text - text format text got it to 95.25mm

ARgggggggggghhh :-)

Have you tried the Corel newsgroup, cnews.corel.com. Join that group and post your question there.

I'm stumped on this as well.
