Full Version: Sprinter - WOE Problem

Sprinter,

What is the problem that constantly causes this pop-up on your site starting Saturday?

As soon as you click 'NO' it pops up again. You need to hover over the 'X' of the window then press 'N' and click the 'X' instantly to even get out of it.

You are so lucky Harvey...you're getting extra content and not even having to pay for it :>

I've never got that, or any other, popup....

Harvey,

Ken may not visit here as often because of his new forum venture.

If you don't get a response here, I have Ken's direct company e-mail address. I won't post it publicly out of his respect to remain anonymous, but if you want it, let me know.

The problem has already been posted twice to him on WOE... No response yet.

As I said in my message to him, if it wasn't his forum, I would be very concerned about a trojan or similar in the software he installed this morning!!!!

Simple fix....

I posted how to fix it on the WOE forum.....If you're worried about what happens when you get the popup...just select no, and you can proceed to the forum as normal without any risks.

http://www.worldofengraving.com/forum/index.php?webtag=ENGRAVE&msg=414.6
If you can't get in for some other reason...here is the full dialog..... No it's not the phishing filter.....I've fixed it. Go to Start Settings Control Panel double click "Internet options" Once in internet options click on the "security" tab Click on the "custom Level" button Scroll down to the "allow programmatic clipboard access" title and change it from "prompt" to "enable" or "Disable". as the choices shown in my screen shot. Hit ok, and allow this change. Re-start IE, and it won't prompt you anymore. If you feel that this is a security issue....allow it to prompt you or never allow it. I believe that this will disable copying from things on your computer and pasting them into the forum (or any other forum) window. People will need to determine for themselves if they want to continue dealing with the prompt or allow or dissallow this action. Or they can just use Firefox and not worry about it at all ;) I have changed mine and it doesn't prompt me any longer.
The problem is caused by the new IE 7.0 + Very simple to change from "prompt" to always "allow" or "dissallow" choice. I have it all laid out in the post above.

br />

Harvey........Wouldn't a question about the WOE forum best be posted on the WOE forum? Right now I see this as a cheap shot at a simply fixed problem due to the new upgrade....How about we play nice between the forums, and take the problems for those forums directly where they belong..........I didn't expect this from you of all people.....

No one on the WOE forum has even discussed the lack of progress, or new developments over here...In fact the EE forum hasn't come up over there for months. Nor has anyone bragged on this forum about the great new options that you get with full membership at the WOE, or the great stuff that Sprinter is adding weekely ( I won't list them out of respect for this forum).

Please lets not start these semantics...We don't need any forum wars. I like having both available to me...I'm afraid that if we start a war.....one will die....More forum choices are always better for the consumer...... Edited for clarification.....

Brian,

With all due respect, you didn't "FIX" anything... what you did was permit access to your clipboard by the WOE server.

I am not passing judgement on whether you should or should not make that choice, just reminding you that Sprinter installed the program that is requesting access to your HD.... and THAT is what needs to be fixed.

There is no reason to even ask for access.

Changing to Firefox does nothing more than "ignore" the request and either permit or block access. I don't use Firefox anymore so I can't tell you which it does. It IS the phishing filter that picked it up on my system when I logged in. Your

"allow programmatic clipboard access"
is turning OFF the choice and just allowing it.

Brian,

We're averaging 100 posts per day, since the beginning of the year, on a diverse range of topics.

I'd call that very steady progress.

So you are saying that that box, if the yes button is clicked, gives sprinter access to our HD's?
Sorry, but I must say that my trust for him has been in question since the development of Engravingetcfree....I mean WOE, but now I have even more questions.
Why would that option even be up? There is no reason at all for there to be access to our HD's, especially from a guy that is doing everything he can to remain anonymous to all of these people he allegedly is trying to help with his site.
I am beginning to smell something fishy and it ain't tuna.

With your glaring accusations and derogatory comments, it sure seems like you're trying to drive a stake between the two forums. I hope you haven't started more bantering here.

I am not worried about Sprinter... I am worried that once you allow the access in IE, you no longer have the warning if another site tries the same thing with evil motives.

We have all mistyped a URL and ended up at a warez site or other site that is nothing but trouble, viruses, trojans, etc.

That is my concern with Brian's "Fix".... "just allow the clipboard access" by changing the settings.

I don't allow the access and still have no trouble logging in to WOE.

I'm really glad that you all have so much interest in WOE to post things here about it and not on the WOE Forum.

It is microsoft and another bandaid type fix, it is really asking if you want to accept the security cookie. I can actually turn off the feature of notifying IE that we are using a security cookie feature, I felt that it should be left on to let the user know we are using a security feature to protect them.

Brian showed the fix, or you can always say yes to the prompt.

We are very serious about security on the WOE Forum and are using every protection we can for the Forum and our members. EE should take note for the security holes in Beehive that can jeopardize the forum and it's members to viruses attached to files or images added as attachments. On the WOE forum we have added server side security and virus protection to check all files to protect our members. The hosting companies DO NOT provide this type of protection, it must be added by the the individual domain holder. (Read as expensive to add).

We do not snoop your hard drive or have that ability as was suggested, we only use a security cookie to protect your password. EE uses Beehive cookies which are very weak and not secure at all.

No it won't. If you re-read the setting, it is about progammatic access to the clipboard. Meaning web page code or applets automatically reading the clipboard on your computer. It's not related to you manually pasting from your clipboard.

I also see no relationship between this and cookies. Cookies are not stored in the clipboard.

I believe my FIRST post about it WAS on your forum.... I won't ignore the same or similar questions here just because it is also being discussed on WOE......

If it is trying to put a security cookie on a system, that is what it should say just like many other sites do.

Cookies do NOT go on a clipboard. They are a small file that is downloaded, usually in the background. You should know that since you are a programmer.

As I said on BOTH forums, I am not worried about you and WOE, I just won't open up the machine to the world by changing the default in IE to blindly allow the access.

That is NOT a fix! That is sticking one's head in the sand like an ostrich.

Seems to me that Harvey has been quite helpful to the members of WOE...

Answering questions, giving hints and tips, etc.

If there was anything behind his posting it here IN PUBLIC and not in the private folders, I don't think he would be so kind to your subscribers..

Don't try to read anything into something that doesn't exist.

I agree, he is helpful, and I help here. The problem I have with his post is it should have been to me or posted on WOE. Why should the members on EE even be concerned about WOE.

Actually after thinking about it, I should thank him, when ever something is posted about WOE we always gain a few more new members B-)
