I went to school in the UP (upper peninsula) of Michigan. Actually, the school (Michigan Technological University) is in the middle of the Keewanaw peninsula which sticks out into Lake Superior. You talk about lake effect snow. We had over 350" (yes, 350 inches) my freshman year. It snowed every day for about a month. They have to truck the snow off campus for fear that it will flood the campus.
I now live in the south and haven't seen snow for several years. I don't miss it a bit.
