Don't forget the alder frames. They make great gifts for 50th anniversaries.
You can personalize them with all kinds of graphics and things.
You could also offer them photos on black acrylic if they don't want to spend the money on marble or granite.

I also engrave photos on the brass and black plates that come on some of the wooden plaques.
Just some suggestions.

You can also do a black/white sublimated photo an gold aluminum and put it in a frame. If you do color possibly a sepia color image.

This doesn't fit every "50th" situation, but we have etched the curved glass pieces that we're all familiar with that have the gold frame on the left (or right) half of the glass. The etched area is a reproduction of the text of their wedding announcement if they had one. And in the photo frame, we place their wedding or reception photo if they have one.

50th's a difficult - seems everything for anniversaries are in silver for 25ths. So we always have to be creative. We've engraved large brass (gold) charger plates and those look great, but need to be polished since they are brass. And there are gold covered 50th style photo books, but for a unique & special 50th anniversary, we took an original wedding photo and had it lasered using ivory foil on to an alder plaque. The photo was done in a horizontal oval and was just the bride & groom from the waist up. We then had their names & wedding date and congratulations 50th type wording put in script across the right edge of the oval. It turned out very nicely - if I find the duplicate plaque we made for the showroom I'll send you a photo. It hasn't turned up since we moved. The final result made the bride/groom cry, so our job was done:)

The idea can morph in to many different types of products. You can do the same photo and downsize for keyrings, upsize for full size photo etc. Using the photo in an oval gives it the old time feeling.

In the past we have done silver trays.. also Engraving with the laser champagne Bottles Saying Congratulations on your 50th Wedding Anniv. John and Mary.. with the date.. and then color fill it.

I finally thought of something we have done several times for a 50th anniversary.............

Since people that have stayed together for that long are very hard to buy for, (already have more than they need or want) we have the "Family Tree" laser engraved onto a Red Alder plaque. I custom draw a tree with foliage and branches for each person. Some have gotten very complex with faux birthstones for the Parents of the recipient, the Recipients, kids, grandkids. We usually use the Austrian crystals and laser a dot where they are to be placed then use silicone glue to hold them on. Use gold color fill on the heading to tie it into the 50th theme. It can be displayed on the wall or use an easel for table top viewing.

Even if they received a "family tree" years ago, this one will be more complete with all of the family on it.

David,
My wife recently made a gift for her mother that might fit. It was a large glass plate (about 13 inch across). It had a light green tint. I think she bought it at Wal-Mart for like $2.00. Then she engraved some florals around the outer rim and and nice poem in the middle of the plate. Since the rim was higher than the center, it was a two process engraving to adjust focus, but came out really nice and her mother loved it.

Just another idea for the price range.
