Hi David,
Kathy and I would be interested in a get together
depending on the timing.
It's about a 13 hour drive best I can figure, which
isn't to bad.
We are also looking at the Show in Columbus, Ohio
and always go to the ASI Show in Chicago.
Keep us posted and maybe give some idea
of the dates you have in mind.

I like that one. It's always a good forum topic.
Regardless of what the (1st Annual?) Engraving Etc. event turns into, there are people reading these messages, who are at the administrative level of the established trade organizations.
Keep the ideas coming folks.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some of your ideas hitting the trade show circuit.

There are so many 'small classes' that I wish ran continuesly, that you could drop by, watch what you need, and go on. (Kinda like the vegetable slicer salesman at the state fair ;). They don't need the depth of a full class slot (I've wished for this at ARA events). Some topics are - diamond engravers - I'd really like to see under BIG magnifing -(where I can rotate it - not flat picture) new, used and dull ones to compare. Also regular cutters. Not selling just learning more of what to look for (kinda confirm what I think I know). Would also like to learn more about diamond drag - and what artwork works best with it. I'm sure all of us find ourselves using the same layout on display (specially when busy), I'd like a demo (all particpants bring samples) class for generating new ideas for layouts.

One way to make diamond drag stand out a bit more is to increase the left margin .003 and decrease the right margin .003 after the first pass. That moves the whole thing .003 and shows better. If the engraving is mainly circles it might give an odd result, the top and bottom will be a thinner line.
On something critical that needs more of a line, move right .003, then down .003 then left .003. It will take four passes but leave the lines very even.

The proposed Missouri seminar (Date TBA) has generated strong interest from the DSSI forum, and for good reason.
Here's how it's shaping up:
Paul Whitehill, owner of Bison Coatings, will discuss the various types of (sublimatable) tiles and their proper applications, i.e. indoor, outdoor, floor, decorative etc.
If you've seen the "Larger-Than-Life" mural installations, of which Paul's company has become renown, you'll want to be there when Photoshop whiz, A.J. Wood, discusses the steps necessary in producing such high-profile works of art.
David Takes tells me a laser engraving rep is raring to discuss laser equipment maintenance procedures - Very crucial, in maximizing a machine's performance.
I haven't decided on a topic for my presentation. Epoxy Doming? Sublimated Award Plaques, using cross-platform techniques, such as combining full-color sublimation with diamond-drag, burnishing and/or laser engraving? <shrug>
We're very much in the early stages of development, but I think you'll have to agree, it's already sounding VERY substantial.
Naturally, a very popular aspect of any event, is a lively Q&A. We'll assemble a panel of experts, from a cross-section of disciplines, to handle just about any question you can throw their way.
As promised, as more details become available, you, the loyal members of the Engraving Etc. and DSSI forums, will be the first to know.
Afterall, it's just one of the many perks, that come with being on the "inside track." :-)

Always have, and always will, have lively discussions.
Naturally, this "Maiden Voyage in Missouri" will be attended primarily by members of this forum and DSSI, since it's being promoted nowhere else.
The objective is to create a "Flesh and Blood" aspect to the forum, which will appeal to those not necessarily interested in forum participation.
Of course, we're hoping, after they see the rampant synergy and the abundance of money-making opportunities, they'll realize, by not staying tuned to the Engraving Etc. & DSSI forums, they're missing out.

In the classes you might offer, could you work in some basic classes like paint fill, masking round glasses, things like that? Somethings I think I have a good grasp on after having this first year under my belt. But other things I don't usually do, like paint fill and such, I think I could use class 101 on basics.
Thanks, I plan on attending this one, as it is close and I will make sure it fits my schedule. Sorry I will miss LV, but the schedule wasn't working for that part of march!

I'm the same way. As many articles as have been done on the subject, I've always learned best by actually seeing/performing the process first-hand.
Maybe a basic paint-filling workshop, where people have the opportunity to actually paint-fill their own (provided) substrate, would be good.
My #1 niche involves paint-filling. Without basic color-filling knowledge, I wouldn't have that niche. Scary financial thought :-)
Before anyone asks the nature of my niche, I'll go on record as saying that I'm holding out on that info until we go pay.

Thanks for understanding. I am the same way. I have done min. paint fill. Would like to know how to do it RIGHT, on wood, glass, etc. And masking those round glasses! Maybe a few tips on selecting masking tapes would be nice too! Sorry don't want to make the list too long! :)
I know having a niche is becoming more important. I am just figuring which direction I want to go after playing for the last year and a half! Only time will tell if I selected right! But easing into the direction slowly!
