For any one looking for the "Cheep" stay try looking in Henderson.
You may find rooms at the Fiesta, or the Station casino for under 40.00 a night. The Silverton workes as well. The down side is you need a car.
Keep this in mind if some bone head puts the show on NasCar weekend again.

Yes, Henderson works pretty good. Was not too far last time I stayed there. And since I always drive, I had a vehicle with me.

That said though, if one can get a reasonable rate at the Hilton, it is sure convenient to be so close to the show if you're like me and have no need to leave the grounds. After some 13 years of Comdex and CES in Vegas...I have no need to look around!

I got a room at the Hilton for $89 for the end of this month for attending the woodworking machinery show...I consider that pretty reasonable just from the standpoint that I won't have to go outside in the heat!

Doug, Have you ever tried the Orleans or Green valley Ranch? My personal favorites. You need to be careful going to cheep so as not to end up like these boys.

Cheers

Have not tried either of those mentioned...but, I have been to the Rumble and I would not recommend it to anyone! Last minute decision to go to Comdex on year...went with no reservation and none were to be found....what a dump.

One year we got booked into a place that had recently experienced a fire...that was bad....

After that, I started making the reservations and with the exception of one year when we took 35 employees down, we stayed at the Hilton or the MGM. The year with 35, we went to Stateline, 30 miles if I remember right, and stayed there for $15. a night and had a great time away from the hussle of vegas. And, we found the trip in was great for planning and the trip out good for comparing notes...

I stayed at the Gold Coast this last year, which is off the strip and about 3 miles I'd say from the convention center. I took the shuttle to the Barbary Coast and then took the tram thing to the convention center. Once I figured it all out (by the last day), it was quite easy to get around.
I paid $25 a night on that Mastercard special (reg $49) for a very clean room, and the place had great food (although you might not want to remind Jim Williams since I believe he broke out in hives for the rest of his stay after we had dinner).
The only down part was the fact that the shuttle didn't run until 9am, which made for a long walk to the Barbary, or you needed to learn the bus schedule, which isn't my thing.
If we could get them to run the shuttle earlier everything would be perfect.
Any hotel that is on the tram is good too, as that was economical if you buy the pass and easy to access and ride.
just my thoughts,
Cindy M

Hi Cindy,

Hint, Hint , The Orleans has a free bus to the Barbary Cost. Every 15-20 min. They are owned by the same people. Gezzzz look at me, I should do a vegas book!

I'll be attending according to my calendar so far and for the first time in years won't have to either choose between the ARA and another conference. I can stay for most if not all of the ARA stuff.

I got the $25 deal through Mastercard last year and stayed at the Gold Coast and it was great. The only :( of my stay was that the shuttle didn't start running until 9am so I had to take a taxi. If enough of us stayed I'll bet we could arrange for the shuttle to run earlier with some nice talk to management. Regular rates are $49 a room, and they are newly remodeled and very nice. Food options are great too. Down side is it is off the strip, so walking or riding the bus or the shuttle is necessary to get to the strip.

The only thing I do want is to not have to rent a car, so transportation such as a shuttle, tram, bus - something that runs to the strip or convention center is necessary.
I don't get out to sightsee while I'm there (after 20 years of going to Las Vegas there isn't much to see that I haven't seen), and I don't like to have a car sit all day just to get me back & forth to the hotel/convention center + pay parking.
So transportation would be important to me on your list. Everything else is negotiable.

Sorry for the repeat on my stay last year - the posting didn't appear to go so I wrote again.
Same shuttle service but it has special hours so not good for the early morning classes.

Dee,
You said

We did a Payless deal, without the collision insurance, but with unlimited mileage for about 100.00. It was a mid size car and fine for the 2 of us.

Did you find that the cost of the car MORE than offset the higher room rate of staying at the Hilton?

Chuck,
We stayed in Vegas for a week and the Hilton was over $100.00 per night and I believe Arizona Charlie's was about 40. So for us it was a no brainer. Just as important to us is that we go and drive through Red Rock Canyon any chance we get. During our time there the word engraving is never mentioned. We also have relatives there that we like to see. We would probably rent a car even if we stayed in the Hilton.

Started off the new year right! Made our reservations for THE SHOW. I was concerned about airlines prices but went through tripreservations.com and was able to get airfare and 6 nights in Vegas at Arizona Charlie's (I'm doing 2 days at the gift show) for under 750.00 for the whole package. Just about what we paid last year.

So David, is it time to start The List? I believe you promised Peter and Kathy 1st place!

Dee,

Happy to hear you've locked in your reservations. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast, but I think it's fitting to start the list off with our visitors from Australia. :-)

Here we go. I'll fill in the company names later.

OK Mick,

I'm going to start another thread. I didn't realize we were well into a 36 post thread, before I started the list. :-$

Dixie - I've tried to book a couple of times with bestfares because they post incredible deals, but when you call somehow the deal just goes away and the rate just doesn't apply to the trip you want to take. So don't count on bestfares for getting the price they post. I finally gave up on them. I was going to join as a member, but didn't due to this runaround.
