I am wanting to get someone else to upgrade my web pages and get them looking more professional and add a shopping cart. Does anyone have suggestions on things to add, what to look for when hiring someone to do this or anything else?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Look for John Fish. Really good reports about him even off this forum.

He is our mover/shaker in software here, including the new entry page when we finally decide on the best layouts.

He is a real can-do guy at realistic prices.

I have a good friend who designs websites. He does good work. If you would like to drop him an email I'm sure he will be happy to show you some of the sites he has designed and answer questions you have.

I'm not his agent, just a friend.

Thanks, it would be nice to have someone familiar with the industry. I use to sub. teach. I had contacted one of the teachers as his class does web page design, but haven't heard back from him about it yet. Would be good for the kids to learn, but, I do want something up soon and not sure if they can do shopping carts.

I will contact them and see what works. Thanks again,

Aleta,

In my opinion, there is no one more qualified to do this work than John Fish. I thought I had a pretty good website until I met John. We are in the process of developing his shopping cart into one that will cater to the needs of our industry. Below are a few features that will wet your whistle.

Customer search by material
Customer search by category
Customer search by occasion
Full database search
Customer can upload logos and text files within the transaction
Products can be listed by variable size
Those same products can be listed at quantity discounts.

We are still putting the finishing touches on the admin side of things, but we hope this will be a program that will be featured specifically for our industry. I don't gain a nickel by saying that, I just know it will serve our industry needs very well.

David,

WOW, so much to think about! I will go check out your site this weekend. Thanks for the info, there is probably more to this then I thought. I did my web pages, just plunky along, but can see there is more then I know to do to get it where I thought it should be.

Thanks again,

Aleta,

My current site is actually pre-John Fish. The new one has not gone live yet. John and I are tweeking his software to get it engraving-industry friendly. You will see what I mean when we go live. I will invite you all to the Grand Opening.

I left another important feature off my earlier list. The customer will be able to enter their zip code and immediately get a reasonably accurate estimate of shipping charges. The shopping cart is linked with the UPS charts to calculate these charges.

By the time I finish with John, I predict he will have most of the code necessary to get you a very comprehensive site that can handle all of your needs.

David,

Your site sounds top of the line! Yes, Shipping charge calculator would be great too! I will add that to my list :-)

Are you getting close to going live? I am anxious to see it! :-)

Thanks for all the info, I will have to do some studying now to see what I want and where to get it.

Thanks again for the help, :-)

Aleta,

The customer side of the website is pretty much complete, with the exception of my product entry. I have about 170 products in my database at this point, but since we have added some new enhanced features, I need to enter product weight and quantity pricing information for my current products, then I will be ready to add more new ones.

John is working on the administrative side of the program now, which is the part where you would enter your product description, picture, pricing, dimensions, weight, colors, etc. Not being a programmer myself, but understanding a little html, this part of the code can get very complex. John has done a great job and I really don't want to place any undue pressure on him. I do know we are getting closer.

John and I have had some very positive back and forth. He does his thing then asks what I think. I tell him this should go here or there. This development stage has been a really great experience for both of us. The final product should be very good.

The best thing is that John wrote all of the code, so he can customize it any way you like.

Who is John Fish? I know I don't read everything here and I must have missed something. Thanks.

Rebecca,

John is hosting the forum as well as being our tech guy. He works behind the scenes, so his work goes unnoticed by most.

Simply amazing are the two words I can offer.

Getting us to the v.5 Beehive software, which would have been enough to cause many web developers a nervous breakdown, John pulled off in record time.

David,

There are others who felt the move to version 5 too great a feat. This is another notch in John's armor for handling it so well.

Hi Sunny,

I'm John Fish, this is a nice thread, usually a WebMaster only becomes recognized because something ISN'T working right, :-$

Thanks to everyone for the nice words, you're a great group to work with.
