Full Version: Computerized Engraving

Help needed: Have been creating logos for Adobe,
Corel, Plts for xenetch, and vinyl plotter in Casmate
for years on my Windows 95 based computer, and
suddenly find that the vector file I create & export as
plt, will not import into Corel as a visible file until I click
on "wireframe" in "view" in Corel. It then will not export
as an importable PLT, an AI or EPS from Corel. It also
will not open when exported from Casmate as an AI or EPS
that will open in Adobe Ill. 8. I suspect something
is corrupted, but it may just be some switch, or preference that
has been changed in my Casmate Pro. Since the same situation
replicates in my Casmate Basic on a newer windows 98 computer,
I think it's my proceedures, not corruption. When I try to open it
in Corel 11 on windows xp, the same situation exists. I've exhausted
all of my limited knowledge and abilities. I can't upgrade my widows 95
computer because it operates my Xenetach controls for my old Dalgren
12 X 24 Table, and can't move Casmate to a newer computer because
I understand the lock won't switch. Any imput will be appreciated. Ward

OK. what changed in your normal of doing business?

you went from Win95 to Win98 nothing else.

you changed Corel versions 9 to 10 to 11?

Make sure when you import the plt files that you ingage the plt filter under the file name box (very important).

If Mark's suggestion does not work, email me the supposed PLT file and I will look at it. I am still fairly conversant in HPGL, (PLT), so I might find a problem in the file.

At least you will know if it is the file or the import that is giving problems.

Edit: email addresses removed.

It might be that the outline of the objects is set to no outline.
x in coreldraw.

I don't use Casmate but that makes sense that it would not be visible in coreldraw till you view wireframe. Also test it by staying in normal mode and clicking the Hairline Outline choice and a color other than your background color(normally white). If the outline shows up that just means it was turned off. Not sure if there are settings in casmate to change it or if it is just a bug when going from one program to another.

Sometimes if the graphics are filled with a color but the outline is set to none, you can see the objects in corel draw. But when I paste them into Xenetech it will say there is no vector graphics found. When I add the Hairline Outline, the vector graphics are found.

Many eps files from customers that have to be vector engraved on the rotary have the outline set to none. The first thing I do is ungroup everything, select all objects, remove all colors left (X), right click the black color to show all outlines (right click x) and then select the Hairline Outline width. That will show all vector lines.

I Don't know what changed. What I was saying in my orig inquiry
was that when I created the file in Casmate-Pro on a win. 95 op. system
and hit the problem, I tried creating it on another computer with win. 98
using Casmate-basic and the prob. of opening it in Corel was the same.
We operate 5 different pieces of hardware, on 5 different computers with 4 different
versions of windows, I tried opening it in Corel on 3 different versions
of windows on 3 different computers and 3 different versions of Corel
and the problem was repeated in each version of Corel on each computer.
So when I tried to open the file by importing it as a plt, I had a blank screen
until I went to "view" and turned on "wireframe". (I'm probably making this more
complicated than it is.) As one of the checks, I also imported the plt. into
Xenetech then exported it as a plt. with a different name and imported it
into Corel where it opened seamlessly.

Casmate is an old Scanvec program (1996) produced for sign makers
and vinyl plotter cutters, that is used to draw, convert bitmaps
to vector files, run various pieces of hardware, and produce text
or artwork, and edit all these in a vector environment. It was purchased
by another Co. that still produces a similar product but does not support
the old Casmate. Many of the current users refer to it as "Crashmate"
but if you save everything as you go it seems to operate seamlessly for
us.

I think you may have hit on it. I was fooling around (my usual operating mode)
and made random changes that I can't remember, but now all of the plt files
created in my testing will open in my computer (called 912) in Corel 9 on win 98
but won't open on Corel 11 version on win xp. op system.

Now my problem is that the box in lwr. rt.,outline: x - is still showing as
white on the Corel 9 (912 computer)

Ops! I just learned to right click in Corel. Up to now (7years) I've just stayed
with my basic defaults, and that has worked. Now I think one of my employees
who have just started to work in Corel and Casmate, have inadvertently changed
some of the settings in Corel. So when I right clicked and came up with that menu,
and clicked on "properties" I came up with the choices on that pop up and did change
the outline, and up pop'd the logo.

I have a learning curve like a dropped rock! Thank you helping me stop the fall which
has lasted 7 yrs. (actually since about 1995)

Select the object after importing, Add a fine black outline to all of the components. Then ungroup them and delete the box. This is common on files that are changed into AI format and then brought back.
