I just wanted to double-check something before I even started this process. I'm going to do some laser engraving on a part of the neck of my electric guitar after I do some testing on a scrap neck and I wanted to breeze something by all of the imaginitive people on this forum. Let me tell you a little bit of what I'm going to do...
The location of the engraving might be a little difficult to explain. While looking at an elec. guitar, it will be on the spine of where the body and neck connect. Not where the screws connect, but the bottom line where there is a section of finished wood about 1" x 2.5" (est.) on the neck. I'm going to raster engrave my initials then inlay them with Rowmark Flexibrass. Now, my dilemma is if there is any type of protection I should give the wood (i.e. sealing the unfinished wood) after I engrave it and before I inlay the Flexibrass? Does anyone know of a different way to do this? I could mask the spot I'm engraving then color-fill with some glossy black paint, but I really want the initials to be glossy like the finish. Anyway, let me know your two-cents and I'll be sure to put the finished product in the "Show and Tell" area of the forum. Thanks for the help.

Nick,
Not knowing if you are of "rock star" status, and whether the wood will be exposed to spilled beer or excessive drool from your rabid fans, I think you could mask it prior to engraving, then spray with a clear wood sealer or acrylic spray.
