Peter, I know this is a late post to an old thread and I did not read all of it ( the thread that is)...but one thing is for certain, IF someone decided to invade Australia, it would be CLEAR why. OIL!!!! Which by the way is what many think our misguided invasion of Iraq is about. But that is for another thread I suppose.....

I hope all is well mate. You have a mate posting named Johnny Orange by the way. Now there are TWO of you Aussie types....who is invading who? :D  (insert laugh here)....

There are now reports that places are putting Christmas items on sale to hit the market before the first home heating bills arrive.

Too late, already filled my oil tank ( $2.87/ gal) over 500 bucks. Only 3 more tanks to go this year. OUCH

Glad to see this thread come back to life. Since my main occupation is farming I can relate to alot of what has been posted here. First of all, I doubt if anyone is plowing under any crops. The main reason for farm subsidies is to be sure THIS country has a steady food supply. Of course, being in the beef business, we get little subsidies. Beef considered a luxury. I too have had to scale back. I still have a 2004 duramax diesel for feeding and hauling but have parked it because of $3.50/gallon diesel and 10 miles /gal. Bought me an '83 Ford ranger for $800 and get 30 mi/gal. Not near as comfortable, no radio, smokes a little but..... Just my 2 cents worth. Jimmy
