I can see the potential advantages/reasons for this verification. At the same time I'm guessing it's implementation may be an issue for some. - depending on how it's done.
Many forum members are concerned about their privacy in one form or another. Different members are willing to disclose very different information. (Name, Company Name, Phone #, Email, address)
John Fish may have some ideas how to implement something. One idea from off the top of my head. (not thought out.) each member has a member number; they can selectively give it out to suppliers. When it's entered, their name and shipping address is returned.

That is a thought. Our original concept was to have a field for company name. The Supplier's Page would have a listing of the company names and member numbers
The thing that bothers me about your suggestion is making the mailing address available from the Internet.
If you order you give the address. But (devil) it might be a good verification that the orderer is truly the person they say they are if the shipping address is verified also.

If I was a supplier, I'd want to verify the address to make sure multiple people aren't using the same ID. You could have a Supplier Only page thats's password protected. And part of the Supplier agreement could be to not use that resource as a marketing tool... as in, they can't just login and harvest all the names.
Maybe have to log in and supply the number and last name to get a result as an extra security measure. (if it was just a number, you'd be able to type in random numbers to get all sorts of results)
It wouldn't (I'm assuming) be just a page where anyone could go and see everyones personal info.

The page is intended ONLY for the suppliers that offer discounts to members. It will have some form of protection for the members and the suppliers.
In this context, a supplier is a company that has joined the supplier group here, with discounts for the members.
