Full Version: 60" three tier trophy

I have a tremendous opportunity to get a go cart track account that buys hundreds of trophies and plaques.

They have asked me to give them prices on a 60" 3 tier, a 48" and a 36" two tier, and a 24" and a 18" one tier trophy. I can figure out how to put together the shorter ones from pictures in catalogues but have no idea how one would make a 60" or a 48" trophy. Does anyone have a picture of one that could be posted to help me out?

That would be helpful. I was seeing a base, 2 or 3 36" columns, a lid, 2 or three 12" columns and then short column a riser and a go cart but that did not seem very stable.

It's stable, but what I did for the real tall trophies was not use the standard lenth rods. I went to a hardware store after measuring the length I needed and bought rods that length. If I put a base between the columns I use a freell and nut to secure them. I was my own idea, /Dont know if others do it that way, but it worked for me. The 7 ft one i did had 4 rods the same length and conected them as I went.

To make the long rods for tall trophies, I've used regular rods and ferrules along with Loctite which tends to make the combined pieces pretty sturdy.

If you do not mind my asking, how much do you charge for one of your 7 foot trophy?

I sat down at my computer and built a 5 foot trophy in Corel. Then I figured out my parts list and came up with a retail price of around $80. It can be either 3 or 4 tier depending on how I do it. I like the 4 tier better with a 1.5" base - 3 16" columns and trim (year) - cap - 3 12" columns and trim (victory flame) - cap - 3 12" columns and trim (place) - cap and 6" column 6" riser and 6" figure. Taking out one cap and making the columns 20" would lower the price a little but not enough in my opinion to offset the difference in look.

Am I even in the right city let alone the right ballpark?

I made the one in the commercial just for that. It's just a display I used just for that. I couldn't tell you how much i got in it. I had all the parts in the shop. But a lady did want to buy it, and i told her it would cost 250 dollars. she didn't bat an eye. She wanted it for her daughters awards. I have had others ask about it too, but right now it's not for sale. I told her the labor in it was 3/4 my time at 45 dollars and hour. So the 80 you got in yours time the markup of 3 is close to the 250. go for it B-)

If you can, do some research on who is currently supplying the trophies for this account and at how much. If you find the right person, they will give you all kinds of info without you even having to ask. You most likely will find they are pricing them at about the cost of the materials or (dread) sometimes less! The hobbyist working out of their garage has really played havoc with trophy prices around here.
