Me again,
I would be happy to try it. Let me know what works for you.

Chuck,

Just curious. What is it about live chat that's preferrable to this almost live format?

David,

The short answer is the immediacy of it I think. There is the opportunity to a " ok, let me walk you through this" or "ok, hang on and let me try that"
There is also the opportunity for live interaction. It could be used as a training device, or a live ask the expert, for example say we were able to get Pradham Balter on line to do a "Corel Class" or seminar in which folks could ask him questions and get immediate answers to their quesitons WHILE they are actually working on the program.
These are just a couple of thoughts that make chat viable in my opinion. Sort of like SKYPE without talking.......which by the way for those of us that have signed up, David T. Harvey and Deena, UCONNDave, Peter Vasic, it has been not only a lot of fun, but a valuable tool.
I hope that answered your question.

Chuck,

I use Skype's chat feature almost daily. You, Harvey, Peter and I have used it in a group setting and it works great. When needed, I like the fact that during the chat we can even transfer files to one another through the same interface. The immediacy is great.

Chuck,

I can see your point in a training situation. Outside of that, it seems like a lot of good information could be relayed, which isn't archived, as it is here.

Of course, for some people, that's the objective.

David, that is true about the archive, but sometimes it helps to have information instantly. If it is important enough, the information could be archived later, or a post could be made after the problem was resolved.

Live chat also adds a sense of community. I know that we already have that here, but think of it as a bunch of us getting together at Quarks at the Hilton in LV only without the beer..... :-)

It's sometimes just plain fun.......all work and no play...blah blah blah

You can also set up a chat conference on Skype. I think it can take up to 255 people at a time.

I did not know that.

In looking at Skype, I think the ability to have an "open" room that anyone can join without being invited does not exist. This would not acheive the goal of having a chat room. IMHO

Chuck, do you REALLY want a chat that anyone can just jump into with no invitation?

Steve,
When I say anyone I mean anyone from THIS forum, so sure why not?

Okay, so anyone that is REGISTERED in the forum..... which means some kind of link to update the chat permissions to coincide with the forum membership (plus a guest accomodation for guest participants).

Looks like progress.... Just wanted to make sure we weren't talking about something like the typical AOL chat room where it is open season for anyone that can find it.....

I am game for a chat room. I just posted a question that I would prefer an immediate response to. So it would be very helpful when you need an immediate answer as to what you should do with a problem.

I also have a skype name. it is bnails52
