Full Version: Adobe CS will open/import eps files that Corel 12 won't

I get a lot of eps files from customers. I have printouts and web instructions of what type of files we need which are usually ignored.

I can't be too demanding since we charge the same for "digitizing logos whether we work from a business card or eps line art.

Most often I get eps files that were made with adobe illustrator on MAC computers since that is what allmost all professional graphic artists use.

Our ASI department has mostly MAC computers with adobe CS(the latest) so they can sometimes open things for me and save in a lower ai version but it is inconvenient.

I recently got several eps files in a row that wouldn't import in Corel 11 with my XP PC with the ps or eps filter. I downloaded the free trial of corel 12 to test before I purchased the upgrade. Some opened but I had an eps file and a pdf file that still would not import.

I downloaded the adobe illustrator cs trial on the XP PC computer and it opened the eps and the pdf files with no problem and both had line art images.

It looks like money would be better spent on adobe CS to open files since corel 11 does all I need as far as working with art even though I don't know enough about adobe to use it for everything.

I still think adobe does this on purpose so people will have to buy their products to just open all files.

hello John
we have adobe cs and corel 12. you might try importing the eps file into corel 12 instead of opening it. i just saved a file in adobe, i couldnt open it in corel but i could import it...go figure

hey john
i spent a little more time and discovered from adobe i can open the ai and pdf files, in corel, with line geometry, but i can only import the eps and it comes in as a tif. but i import the same eps file into other applications and get line geometry.....

I did try the import with the both the ps and eps filter in corel 12 which is what I usually have to use with ver 11.

I also used the special pdf filter for the pdf file and it did not import into corel 12 either.

I am wondering if some of the problem is with the files saved from MAC's.
When asi saves some files for me there is a drop down selection for .ai version # and also for a mac or pc. That is the .ai file type. I thought that eps should work on any platform but maybe not. I tested the eps saving dialog from adobe cs. It does let you select an older version but they are listed as ai versions, not corel. There is not a choice for mac or PC though.

I forgot to mention I still get a lot of eps files that open in Adobe Illustrator ver 9 that will not import into Corel version 11 even though that adobe version is older than Corel 11.

i just created both an ai and a pdf from adobe cs, the import into corel 12 was flawless. it was a straight open the file to corel. you may want to get you asi people to convert the files to ai

in cs if you do an export you can save both ai and eps file to older versions

i was told by someone the mac releases of adobe are always 1 release ahead of the pc's.....
