All,

Has anyone had any experience with Lui Art and their marble products? I have received a few e-mail promotions over the past few months and been intrigued with some of their designs. Have you had any problems with quality, inventory levels or other service issues?

David,

I've never heard of Lui Art, but then again, they've probably haven't heard of me either :-)

Do they have a web site? What is the product or service?

Edit: You said marble products. Are these the dyed marble?

David,

Their web address is http://www.luiart.com. They are located in Guadalajara, Mexico.

What I know about the company is what I have found on their website. It appears that they do sculpturing, waterjet cutting and marble veneering. The pictures on their website display some very nice and different products.

I have been looking for a company that produces good quality marble bases. I do some annual awards that require a marble base and I have not been completely satisfied with the bases from current suppliers who I have sourced.

I plan to give them a call today if I get a chance.

David,

Thank you for bringing this company to our attention. I looked at the web site. Neat stuff!

From their spelling of "colour" it seems to be a Canadian or British company, taking advantage of the NAFTA.

All,

In mid-August I inquired about a company in Mexico named Lui-Art who manufactures and markets marble and granite products. There was no one in the forum that had done business with them. After doing some investigation, I would like to report that you may not have been doing business with them, but you have more than likely been selling their products.

They are the key marble supplier to some of our industries most popular names such as Norwood, R.S. Owens, Art Crystal, Innocast Execuline, Creative Modeling, Bruce Fox, Quarry International, AAA Glass, among others.

They are getting very close to setting up a distribution center in the United States. They would not disclose the exact location, but they have acquired the space to handle business domestically for us.

I ordered and received a piece last week in an effort to check the quality of thier marble, cuts and bevels. With no exageration, it was the best I have seen in all three categories.

In my correspodence with the president of the company, he indicated that they produce nearly 500 different designs. He is currently working on a custom design for a regional insurance client of mine.

I am eager for their move into the U.S. It will be much easier to do business with them.

They seem very eager and service oriented. They have the capabilities to really shake up the high-end award market.

I like the thought of having some new creative marble designs to offer my customers.

David,

YOU may be looking forward to Lui's move to direct U.S. distribution, but I doubt that R.S. Owens etc. share your entusiasm. :-)

I am sure they will be burning a few bridges in the process, but it makes good business sense for them to make such a move.

I personally think our industry will be better off with this move. Time will tell.
