Full Version: Yahoo Site Builder/Hosting

I have been using Yahoo to host my website for 2 years now, and it is costing me $50 monthly. Originally, someone built the site for me and I just went with Yahoo due to lack of knowledge on any of that end of my business. Recently, I have completely rebuilt the site, still using Yahoo site builder, but I am wondering if I can, and how, to go about getting it hosted through somewhere else. I don't like to pay that money when I am the one doing all the work.

Does anyone know if I can, since it is built with Yahoo site builder. If I find another host, do I have to rebuild the site? How do I find another host and another shopping cart?

Tracy,

Contact John Fish at johncfish at johncfish dot com. (Sorry about the redundancy.) He is the host an webmaster of this forum. He also hosts my two sites and from what I can tell, is growing in popularity with the members here.

There was a recent thread on a similar subject. Not dealing specifically with Yahoo, but with similar monthly charges. I'll dig it up and provide you the link.

Here it is. http://www.engravingetc.org/forum/index.php?webtag=EE&msg=2332.1

I am not a website expert. Just picked up some knowhow by doing it.

Most likely you would be able to move and use most or all of the current site.

If you can view a folder now and see the html, jpg and other files you should be able to just save them to your computer and upload them to a new site.

There might be some changes to the links you would have to update.

I was able to view the sourcecode from your current page. I coppied and pasted it into Netscape Composer and when viewed it looked just like your site but with just the place holders for the pics since I didn't download them.

If there are any fancy scripts they might be set up to only work with yahoo or be copyrighted. But from what I saw most were just regular links to new pages and pics.

If your shopping cart was furnished by yahoo, that likely won't work on another site but there are others you could get. That is likely one of the things that is costing you more.
