Full Version: Plaque plate damage

How does everyone handle the pin hole's that sometimes comes through on the premade metal plates from your suppliers? Do you try to fill the pinhole, and if so, what do you use? Or do you just return them to your supplier?

Dave,

I assume you're referring to coated or screened plates. If so, if the color is compatible, a permanent marker can work.

If the pin hole is too large, even though the marker covers the pin hole, there can be a noticeable area, where it's obvious the plate has been "doctored" up.

If you mean black brass with a pinhole, magic marker really does not cut it. At an angle it will reflect a red-black and will be obvious.

Since I cut most of my own plaque plates, I would complain to the source. I have had that only once with Main Trophy and it was replaced with absolutely no problem.

With the fancy plaque plates that come with some plaques, I have had it a little more often. The suppliers grumble and usually replace the plate. In a jam I sometimes use the plate and get lucky that the engraving goes over the pinhole, not often. What I really hate is a scratch that is under the masking and not obvious when masked. I have seen that in Chinese made goods, but not in American made.

David,

Yes, coated. The pinholes are usually in the black coated plates and I've used a marker to limited success. Limited because the markers appear to be blue on the plaque instead of black.

I've seen them in the plates that I get from Continental Trophies. I smooth on the black enamel paint (like Laserbits carries) to cover the spot, let it dry, then wipe off the excess. It's hardly noticable once it's finished.

A little dab'l do ya!

I do need to warn you, though...

We have patents on putting enamel paint on plaque plates. However, for the paltry fee of $233,044.99 (this week only), we will enroll you in our hands-on course for this process. Of course, you will then be required to purchase a license to perform this in your own shop. The license fee is $1,999 per year. This license allows you to use this process once per year, after which you will need to purchase another license.

Cody,

That licensing policy sounds very familiar. Hmmmm? :S

Yes, but by the time you figure out that it's a con, I have your money and am living comfortably in Maui playing croquet.

Cody,
You said

You would be living ON Maui......if you were living IN Maui, you would have to be in a cave, a lava tube or dead.....

Sorry but I had to point this out.........

As for croquet, well, I know of a great club here.....but of course you will need to have your mallet personalized, BUT for t he small sum of $233,033.99 and a one time setup charge of $1,999.00 I can do that for you. :-)

Your point is well made, good sir. I shall then live ON Maui.

Did you say that the process of engraving mallets is patented?
