HELP!!!

Does anyone know how I can convert AutoCad files (.dwg) to pdf or some other more familiar format??? We just got AutoCad LT 2006 at my day job but I don't know how to use it yet. I need to have some plans enlarged and printed off. The local digital printing place said they cannot open .dwg files but if I could convert them to another format they can do the printing.

Any suggestions???

I use Adobe Illustrator CS2 to convert them. CorelDraw can open some AutoCad dwg files to convert them but it depends on the version of Corel and AutoCad, but Illustrator seems to open all versions of AutoCad files.

since you have autocad LT you can cut and past into adobe or corel. i use adobe cs and it works fine, corel is a little different though. if you cut and paste into corel make sure you zoom in as much as possibe in autocad, because your importing the whole screen area from autocad. the other proble in corel is you cant explode or manipulate the vectors

if you cant get it to work, i have the full autocad 2006 version and i will convert it to something you can use

good luck

I would hope that Autocad would have an export function.

If anything like most programs it is under "File/Export", then select the format. It may be under "Save As..." then select the format.

it does Harvey, but it wont export pdf's.....she has acad LT 2006 so the only thing she can export to is adobe cs or cs2. i have corel 12 and i used an older format export in acad and corel 12 wouldnt import it. there are workarounds but they are complicated to a novice acad user.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I did try opening and cutting/pasting into Corel but it didn't work so great. Luckily I have a friend who says he can make the conversion for me so we'll see how that works.

It's been awhile since I felt so lost using software! Now if I can find the time to play with AutoCad...

Thanks again!

The other solution may be to get Adobe Acrobat Pro. It installs a printer driver that allows you to print into the program and also saves it as a PDF.
