William,

Thank you for your kind offer but I won't use any mail system that "reads" all the messages and links "relevant" ads to the user.....

Questions? Read the Gmail terms of service... :-(

Will

I am going to show my ignorance here and ask a question - I have heard of Gmail before but have no idea what it is. Seem like someone here at the forum mentioned it before but I don't remember what it is all about.

It is google's entry into the free web-based email market.

A few months ago free email like Yahoo and MSN only gave you an email box of about 2-7 mb. It filled up fast with any size of attachments and would then bounce messages.

Google's g mail announced they were coming out with a free service with 1 gigabyte yes gigabyte of storage space.

That forced both yahoo and MSN to increase there offerings dramatically.

Even my SBC/Yahoo accounts that come with the dsl connection increased to 2 gigabyte for the main and 1 gigabyte for the 10 sub accounts to keep up.

You don't need that much space for email but the idea is you can save stuff there also so in case you have a hard drive or other calamity your files are still safely stored there.

Some people use the free email for registering at sites. If over time too much spam is received you can just close it down and start another one.

Since it is web based you can also access it from any computer without adding settings to the email client.

My SBC/Yahoo emails can be accessed from the web or through an email client and have excellent spam filtering.
