In Texas, we refer to 1/2 mile as "a piece".

A full mile would be "a fair piece" (pronounced "uh far piece").

Sure can! (and did!)

Went to UCC for a semester and the housing was 1/2 mile from the classes. That's a "piece" by YOUR definition, isn't it? ;-)

As an overall observation, people who attend the ARA show cover the entire spectrum of what is worn.

3-piece-suited business types to jeans/t-shirts, to the golf shorts and tennis shoe crowd.

In Las Vegas, you have to keep in mind that EVERYTHING is bigger than life. This is especially true when it comes to the land parcels used for development of these hotels, parking structures, etc.

Having said this, as I recall (I've only been to Vegas a thousand times), the northern boundary of the HUGE Hilton/Las Vegas Convention Center multi-block acreage is Sahara Rd. (Blvd). The Sahara hotel's backside, so to speak, is on Paradise Rd.

The frontside of the Hilton is on Paradise Rd.

So, the Sahara is kind of across the street from the Hilton, although the actual Hilton hotel is down the street quite aways. And the Convention Center is even further.

The bottomline is they're close, relatively speaking. And although you CAN walk it, you wouldn't want to. Take a cab. Or the Sahara may have a shuttle to the Convention Center.

Or, if your name is "Chuck", you wear ALL of those items...at the same time. B-)

I'd consider it a 'very short' walk, but then Steve and I walk from the Hilton to the Luxor at least 2 times during out 3-4 days there. Unless they've extended the tram, I remember it ending at the Hilton so I doubt it would be much help for you. My two cents.

I haven't attended the Gala for a few years now, but when I did attend people seemed to dress to the nines for the most part. Tuxedos or formal evening suits for the guys, or nice dark suits if you are a bit more casual.
Ladies were in formal dress, long or mid length cocktail dresses. A few formal style pant suit outfits, but most in dresses.

Unless things have changed a lot, casual dress would not be very appropriate for this occasion.

I have the tram map here from last year and there is a stop at the Sahara, then the tram goes right to the Hilton, then the Conference Center and beyond.

Trying to book my trip now, but won't add my name to the list until I do. Have a possible funeral in Canada to attend any time now, and a possible trip to Virginia that might interfer with my plans for LV. So we will see if this works out or not this year.

Thank you everyone for your replies regarding transportation to the ARA show.

Hubby and I either one are afraid of a good walk. So, walking a mile or 2 is no problem for us. That is before beer. After beer it may be an entire different senerio!
