Hi Gang,
Anyone upgraded to QB 2006 yet? I understand it has improved and enhanced inventory features.......does it?

Thanks

Nope and I'll gladly tell you why. We've been loyal Quickbooks users for many years and we have 5 users on the network. There once was a day when Quickbooks offered an "upgrade" deal and that stopped a few years ago so every eyar you are paying full price to stay current, in our case it is nearly $1500. So we have not upgraded since the Premier 2003 version. Then we recently started getting these pop-up warnings whenever we e-mailed an invoice or statement that we would no longer have the ability beginning in March. It seems that after three years they not only cutoff support (which I can understand) but they cutoff basic functionality. E-mailing anything in Quickbooks feeds through the Quickbooks servers and they just stop that access rendering a basic function useless. I have a real problem with that.

So we switched to Peachtree and it has been the best thing we've ever done. It is so much more powerful.

Chuck,

I just finished upgrading our computers to QB '06 Retail yesterday. We were running the '03 version prior to this.

The literature says that it's much more powerful, but I can't see that much has changed with the way it handles inventory.

One of the best things about it for us is the way it handles customers & vendors. I can click on a customer's name, and it will show me all the history that customer has. In the '03 version, you had to do a "FIND" for each customer to see the same info.

There are more reports, most of which we don't care about...some of them deal with inventory.

In general, I like QB.

HTH,

Cody

We had just started using Premier Pro 5 user Edition for 2004 about a month before 2005 came out....got a good deal from Dell on it. Since we lost our software in the Hurricane (had the data thank God), QB contacted me months after and asked if I needed a copy of the software I lost. Of course I did. They sent me 2005 Basic. When I called to ask for the Premiew network version, they told me if I waited one week, they give me 2006. Of course I did.
It has a few improvements over 2004 and might be a tad slower but overall, I'm pleased with it. My CPA is too compared to the junk we used for years.

....

So do I. Intuit is becoming a monster.....I had not thought about peachtree, but I'll check with my accountant and see what she thinks. Are forms etc., compatable between the two? Checks, invoices etc?
What about inventory in Peachtree?

Thanks

The inventory would have been the ONLY reason I wanted to upgrade...so perhaps I will wait.

I tend to agree with Liberty about QB forcing folk to upgrade by not supporting features......

QB 2004 is slow enough. If the new version is slower still....I'll stick with what I have.

Thanks

Gee... I'm still running QB Pro version 4 (1995) and have found no reason to upgrade

Inventory, billing, statements, orders, payroll .......what am I missing.

I would imagine that answers my question :-) How does the inventory feature work for you? I have not used it for the awards business.....I have heard that QB inventory for the awards business is less than optimum.

Thanks

Why would YOU need ANY bookkeeping software? This stuff is generally used by those actually IN the awards business. (devil)  B-)

See you in Vegas. Don't forget my grass skirt.

I'm just a small shop but I find it impossible to keep track of the $25K I have in inventory in two locations. The inventory section makes it easy to see current items in stock, to reorder, and the take out of inventory when items are sold,

The ability to type in a trophy code and have all the info show up and taken out of inventory saves time. Just need to identify figure and column if used.

You can add sub levels of items if you want to keep everything together.

On file customer walks in and wants to order what they purchased last year. Just type in their account name, date of purchase or items bought.. The data base is searched and brings up info.

The biggest drawback is trying to keep purchase costs current. You have the abilty to record the cost when the invoice is received against the purchase order, but that does not update the items cost in the items individual record for the next time you go to replace the item.............

Hope this helps.

My only comment to this discussion is M.Y.O.B.

For those who are unhappy with Quickbooks, they have a data import feature just for you. I've used it for 15 years and wouldn't change my accounting software for anything.
