Is there any reason searches don't default to "from the begining of time." Thats the setting I use most often. Its also frequently mentioned when someone is telling a new member how to use the search function. Does anyone prefer it as it is?

That is a good recommendation. I'm in your boat. I'll check with John to see if that can become the default.
