Full Version: Depth cone for GTX-U?

It's me again (I told you I'd be back!)

Anywho, the used GTX-U I bought last week is slowly recovering from my errors, and thanks to all who responded.

New problem: the machine came with no depth cone but with the rotary spindle that has 2 adjustments for depth, one appears to be gross and the other fine. However, there appears to be threads at the bottom of the spindle to accept a depth cone.

Sales rep at Gravograph says they will do not provide tech support for manual machines, but they did send a parts list of available parts for this machine, and the drawings/list does not show a depth cone.

My questions:

1. Is a depth cone required, optional or not used on this spindle?

2. What cutter should be used for tools with plastic cases (ie drills, etc), a cutter for flexible engraving plastic or a cutter for brass/aluminum? or is there another choice? (I know, this one has nothing to do with depth cones, but I don't know the answer so I'm asking here instead of creating a new message)

Thanks again!

Michael,

I wonder why Gravograph won't provide tech support for a machine they sold? Oh well, that's an entirely different topic. :-)

A nose regulator is crucial to consistent depth-of-cut.

A Gravograph nose, used on their computerized equipment, with 11/64" spindles, will fit your GTX-U spindle.

You could also check with Quality One Engravers www.q1engravers.com where Fred Schwartz will most likely have what you need, at a fraction of the Gravograph price.

Edit: Checked the Q1E catalog and they carry a wide variety of nose regulators in Delrin and steel.

Great, thanks! :D

Looks like you were answering while I was editing the original :P

I checked their online catalog and didn't see any depth cones. Called, but before I could finish identifying myself was put on hold, so resorted to an email.

Michael,

I didn't check the online catalog, although I did see the nose cones in the "hard copy" version of the Q1E catalog, I received at the ARA show in Las Vegas.
