Brian,

I couldn't help but notice, what you call your "house" white sublimation metal, compares very favorably to DynaSub, in terms of whiteness and dye receptivity.

My only disappointment with DynaSub, is its .020 thickness. Your metal, which I believe, is .025, and (mathematically) doesn't sound like much difference, makes a substantial difference when compared side-by-side.

My only disappointment with your "house" metal is, it doesn't have a protective mask.

What I'm saying is, your metal, with a protective mask, would be the frontrunner as my "white metal of choice."

In the past, you've said that for your applications, a mask isn't necessary. For the A&E industry, as a whole, masked sheet stock is excpected.

Any hope of seeing a masked "Rallye Sub" during my lifetime? :-)

Hi David,

I have that metal with a protective mask now. The mask is not made for transfering through with laser sublimation, but works very well to protect the material in transit. This sublimation aluminum works very well with ink jet dye sub, and is a more substantial .025 thick as you had mentioned.

Brian,

I use white metal for ink jet sublimation.

I never thought I'd ask this question about masking, but "Paper or Plastic?" :-)

Will the masking stay on remnants, or is it more of a slip-sheet for shipping purposes?

I like to cut my larger plates and throw remnants in a box for future use.

Hi David,

The protective mask is something that you need to peel. It is applied via lamination at the mill. It will peel off similar to what you are used to with the clear protective masks.....So it won't be flopping off if you want to save your cutoff's. Fortunately, it isn't like the paper masks that you may be familiar with..........You know the ones that become permanant after a few years of sitting.

The stuff looks real "perfessional". ;-)

I think you will be pleased with the results.

Sorry.....I didn't address the makeup of the mask. It is a blue plastic material, not a paper at all.

For some reason I am having some problems editing my posts. I get an error when trying to edit.

Thanks Brian,

I'll give your "improved" metal a try, next time I need some white metal, which looks to be coming up very soon.

Not sure what to say about the editing error. I've occasionally seen that error myself, but not sure if it's a Beehive software or a computer thing. Very rare occurences.

Next thing I know, you'll be telling me it's a "PC" thing. :)

No, no, no.

A "general" computer issue, possibly. :-)

Is this the same white alulminum that I used last August for the 1,000 license tag order?? Did not have protective coating - which was fine with that order, but would like the portective coating for sheets on my shelf.

Hi Zona,

Yes.....Different mill, same coating. The sheet stock has a smoother more glasslike coating than the license plate blanks that you used, and comes with the protective mask.
