One word about 5 1/4 floppies. They have not been made for a while that I know about, ... are starting to fall apart. ... The oxide just powders off in the drive.
This is not something I wanted to hear. I have an old Heathkit Hero 2000 with a 5 1/4" drive in storage. (my garage) I got it for myself back when I was in high school. - always figured I'd take it out one of these years. So far my only concern was the batteries...

Ken,

Where did you hear that from, Thats interesting I have hundreds of 5 1/4 floppy disks. I keep telling my customers that you can not get these anymore so they need to change at least to the 3.5" but they refuse.

Maybe I send them this quote and they will finally wake up.

That was a partial quote from me in another thread.

My problem is that the Easidisk System disk unit that came with the NH Orbiter is the only one that will work with it. Their 3.5" unit is not compatible with the NH unit.

I see harvey answered your question. My intent was to post to him and not 'all'. I did not want to go off subject in the other thread, so I put it here. It was the first time I've hear/read about them degrading. I have no personal experience. Except for my 'toy' in storage, I no longer have devices that use these.
