If the monitor doesn't power up when plugged into a working socket but the other cord is not into the computer, the monitor's shot, correct?

Thanx,
Steve

If the Tube is working you should get a "No Signal" message on the screen if the cable is not hooked to the computer.

Time to pay the $10-15 Disposal fee and get a new one,..

If you want to drive 4 hrs. west (about 1/2 hour west of Binghamton, NY) I'll give you a 21" monitor that works, but has a strong green tint to it. It's headed for the dump.

Most likely so. Did you check the power cord to make sure it's securely plugged into the back of the monitor? Actually wiggle it or unplug it and re-plug it back into the back of the monitor.

You can also try swapping the power cord with another monitor or computer. (They are usually interchangeable.)

You don't need to have the monitor plugged into a computer for it to be able to turn on. Some monitors will display "no signal" or similar text. Some monitors just light up their LCDs and keep the screen blank.

Some monitors have a two color power on indicator light. It's one color with the power is on, another when power is on and it's getting a signal from the computer. In other words if the computer is on the LED is green and the display shows the computer's content. Turn off the computer and the LED changes to yellow, and the display goes into power save mode. (Blank) - If you don't know the monitor, hook up a computer to test.

I plugged it in and all I got was a clicking sound from it. Then again, it's 9 years old, so maybe it just gave up the ghost.

On an old CRT, you may be describing the sound of the internals expanding as it heats up. (If you're referring to powering it up.) If you're referring to plugging it into the computer, you may have an antique paper weight.

No, I tried one last time to just plug the monitor into a socket, not the computer, to see if anything happned. All is did was click, something which it never did before.
Staples, here I come.. hope they have the "easy button" there
