Full Version: .ai, .tif files crashing corel 12

For the past 2 weeks I have been having increasing problems with different file extensions crashing my corel 12

It started with .ai files now .tif files are also doing it.

They seem to import ok, but when I go to print it (click on File and print) my corel locks up and I have to close through the task master.

Then when I try to reopen Corel it hangs up at the opening pen logo thing that comes up while initalizing.

I have had corel 12 installed for about a year and have had absolutly no problems till recently.

This is driving me crazy as I need to be able to use .ai and .tiff files.

I anyone else experiencing this?

Any advice?

Thanks all,

Greg

Just a shot in the dark, but is it possible that your C: drive has very little free space left on it? That's something that can shrink over time and could cause problems when loading large files or trying to print images, making it fail now when it used to work OK.

(just one of many possibilities)

No I have plenty of free space on my c drive.
Has to be something else.
Thanks,

If the drive and the temp printer directory for the spooler has enough room, it might be a corrupt ini file.

Be sure that the spooler is directed to a blank directory first because the other fix cannot be undone. (Depends on the operating system how to do that. It is an area that I am ill at ease with and blunder my way through on the rare occasions that I need to do something with it.)

The fix for the ini file is drastic, you loose any and all modifications that you have made to Corel. When you start Corel hold down the F8 key, I am fairly certain it is F8. That will boot Corel to the Corel defaults and overwrite the ini file.

I have had to use it twice with Paint, the brush just would not paint no matter what the settings. Every preset disappeared including special toolbars.

Good luck.

I was going to uninstall and reinstall Coreldraw.

Went to the task manager, clicked on Coreldraw 12 and saw a support option, clicked on it and it said something like,
"If this program is not working properly click on repair and it will reinstall program to original settings"
I had to put in Coreldraw disc and it did its thing without resetting all my defaults.
So far it seems to be working (insert knocking on wood here).

Thanks,
Greg

That is pretty much what Corel 9 does with the F8 button. Except you do not need the disk.

Glad you are running smoothly now.

You can do that with the F8 key in 12 also I think, but it resets everything to Coreldraw defaults in the tool bars and palletts.

It never hurts to defrag your drive on a regular basis. Besides making your system faster, it does help a little to avoid certain problems.

Thank you Paul,
I do regular defragging.
It is good advise.
