I am looking to take a small wooden box such as that shown below:

And print some full color artwork to place on top. The box is made of MDF with a veneer. I did not want to get the product coated so I am looking for some ideas. This is a new project for me and I certainly appreciate any help I can get. I would need to purchase all equipment as I currently have nothing.

The end result would look like this:

Thanks for the info. The only problem I see is that the entire piece of material would need to be placed on the item instead of just the item that is colored. So in this example you would see a lot of the decal material, wouldn't you?

There is a machine out that uses a mild solvent ink that also prints white. I do not know if it will take that depth though. It is about $18,000.

A bit much for a onsie.

For a dark item you will need something that can print white.

I believe the DCS - Direct Color System can handle items up to 4" in height. I did see these printing on plastics and metals with white at the recent ARA show, but I have not seen results of white on any wood surfaces.

The white background is being worked on with many direct flatbed inkjet companies, and when this happens many of these companies will be able to print directly to products like the wood here on this posting.
