Working as a video editor, I've many times need to send extremely large files to and from different graphic artist, sometimes at the last moment. The best system that I have found that has worked for me over and over again is.... www.yousendit.com Free and has never failed. It has allowed me to get the file within a short period of time, and it's there for seven days after the postings. Clients have sent me files on Sunday evening that had to be completed on first thing Monday morning. It is a job saver. If not your primary, it is a "great" back up for file sending.

Not sure exactly how it works since I didn't set it up.
But I upload our website with it using Internet Explorer.
You just enter the ftpaddress instead of a www.

It then works pretty much like copying files from one place to another just like on your computer. It is password protected for obvious reasons.

If you just want to do it between computers and don't have a web server with ftp, there are free versions of file sharing things that turn your computer into a mini web server.

the simplest is

another is badblue with more features and paid versions.

The other way is to file send through Skype. BUT you will find out how fast molasses in winter can be in comparison. Their transfer rate during busy periods can be as low as 200 Bytes per second. That is about 2.000 baud. Slower than...

I really appreciate all the responses. I don't know how I've gotten away this long without ever using ftp to move files around. I've got a 100mb mailbox and high speed so file size has never been an issue. And the 2 website I do I use MS FrontPage to download there. I've read up on it and now getting some software now to be able to ftp and won't have to worry with it anymore.

Another option would be a gmail account. 2gb of storage. Once you have an account you will get plenty of invites to share with your customers. If you don not have a gmail account or an invite already. Send an email to southeastlaser (at) gmail (dot) com and I will send you an invite. I think I have 100 invites available.

Have you read anything at http://www.gmail-is-too-creepy.com/ yet? I will not knowingly send any email to a Gmail account after reading Google's (they own/are Gmail!) terms of service and use of any information posted. :S

I recently got a gmail account, to receive a file size, larger than my regular email account could accomodate.

Haven't used it for much, other than that, but after reading the article you pointed to, I may use it even more sparingly.

I just did, and wish I did not. Some truths are better not known.

The world by Google, seems like an interesting book. Too bad it looks like it might become a book in reality, a very large book.
