Hover over the shortcut icon on your desktop with the mouse.
RIGHT click it and select "properties".
Make sure the path to the actual application file is correct.
It sounds like it points to the installation file instead of the actual coreldrw.exe file.
You can also enter a shortcut key sequence here.
It lets you open the application without even going to the desktop icon.
I noticed when you update some things it might change, especially your
short cut keys.
This is handy if you have a lot of windows open already.
For example I can just key in [ctrl] [alt] and "D" and my coreldraw will open.
as well as others.
You can also do the same with folders or the root of a hard drive you use all the time.
I can key [ctrl] [alt] [1] and the folder with all my raw text files for pasting opens up.
If that doesn't work locate the actual exe
program in the
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Graphics 11\Programs\coreldrw.exe
folder. It may vary if you changed the location during installation.
It should be easy to spot with the small green icon.
If you have your system files hidden you will need to go here to make
them visible.
Tools>Folder Options>View and make the Hidden system files, folders and protected files visible.
You can double click the coreldrw.exe listing and check to see if it opens coreldraw. If not there is something wrong with the application itself.
If it works, hover over the name in the list, right click it and select "create shortcut".
Go to the end of the list and find the new shortcut with the arrow. Drag, copy and paste, or send to the desktop or other start menus or quick launch menus.
Right click it on the desktop, select properties and enter your shortcut keys there if you want. You can also rename it to remove the word shortcut and change the icon.
If you click on a coreldraw file and it opens the wrong application, you need to change your file associations.
That is done from a folder window. Select Tools>Folder Options>FileTypes.
Locate the cdr extension. Click "change" and be sure the right application icon is there and the same path to the actual coreldrw.exe file is correct.
