Full Version: Whole New Market.....

I was vegging in front of the tube the other night, actually watching the Season Finale of Deadliest Catch, when I saw what had to be one of the more bizarre things I have seen on tv

The RPS Championships..What does RPS stand for??!!??

Rock Paper Scissors....That's right ROCK PAPER SCISSORS IS NOW A NATIONALLY TELEVISED EVENT!!

That same game we played as kids ,which served as mediator for all of life's decisions and conflicts, is now a national "sport"

There are actually regional competitions for this. The grand prize was $50,000!!! Let me repeat that for those of you still in shock....$50,000 to play ROCK PAPER SCISSORS!!!

After I got over the shock of this, it got me thinking...this is probably a completely open market for awards LOL.
Unbelievable.....

I must have led a sheltered childhood? What is this game all about?

Two people stand face to face with one hand behind their back.

One or both of them chant either "I,Stri,Shoot" or "Rock,Paper,Scissors" or the official RPS chant which is " Ro, Sham, Bollah"

On the last word...usually shoot, both participants thrust out their hand with the hand making one of 3 shapes,

A flat palm indicates paper, a closed fist is a rock and a sideways "peace sign" is scissors.

Paper "covers" rock, rock beats scissors and scissors cut paper.

Typically it's played in a best out of 3 type fashion. Most kids use it as a means to settle a dispute when no other compromise is to be made.

So if you and I were playing, and I put out a flat palm indicating paper, and you put out a closed fist, I would win that round because, paper covers rock.

Televising such a thing and calling it a sport to me has got to be a new low in television.

This is why I don't watch TV LOL

OOOOOOOOOOOk. Maybe we can play this at the next Beach Party. The winner gets to wear Chuck's skirt.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll be sure to catch that show.

My spelling will be way off but
quote:
"I,Stri,Shoot"
is "Aince, Stvei, Shoot" (phonetic of the German 1, 2, Shoot). Maybe this is where it originated. Possibly also Yiddish.

But the new saying is never show up to a Gun fight with Rock, Paper, Scissors or Knives.

Ken,

Thank you for that.

I'm way behind on the new sayings. :-)

Two of which?....with the settings correct, you can engrave on all of three with a laser engraver. I wonder if you would be able to set up first, second, and third place awards. First place- resin rock on a stand, second place a pair of shears, and third place a card saying better luck next year. :P

Dave-
If you don't like knives how about....
They aren't exactly the
Brightest bulbs on the marquee?
Sharpest crayons in the box?

Sounds a little safer. :-)

Back on the topic:

The idea of the resin awards is a good one.
