I was sent a .dxf file that the customer wants vector cut out of acrylic. My problem is that the letters consist of over 200 curves and when sent to the laser it cuts in short little bursts sometimes cutting numerous times in the same spot. Is there something that I can do to fix this?

Basically a curve is a series of very short straight lines as far as the engraver is concerned.

As far as repeat cuttings, it is a tough node editing job to remove the extra lines.

Is it a color rendition? If so every edge that touches another color will have an edge for both colors, as far as a laser that is duplication of lines. Any filled area will also have the duplicate lines to do the fill. Corel Trace X3 does that also. If anyone knows the solution to this problem, I am also all ears.

Usually if the autocad person converts his drawing to Polylines it helps. it does not always work but it does seem to smooth out the curves.

For the multiple lines this is an import issue from autocad to Corel for some strange reason when importing into Corel it ends up with multiple layers. Don't know why but I have seen it many times.

The weird thing is run the same file directly through autocad and it works perfectly.

What I end up doing is Import the autocad file into corel. Ungroup all and in some cases break apart. Then select an area and delete until the last line goes away then CTRL Z. to bring it back you then will notice a difference between the lines that have multiple layers and the single line one. It is a real pain in the butt but it is a way of making the file engrave without going over the lines two, three, or more times.

My only other suggestion would be to run the file directly through autocad this cures both issues.

I can run it through an optimizer if you like.

Jeff,

I believe that we are having trouble with spam-blockers trashing our forum mail lately. It may be due to a lot of activity through the forum. A few things are being looked at to try to solve that.

The best bet at this time is to send him your email address through a Private Message. That should get through to him and then back to you.

Sorry for this inconvenience.
