Full Version: A question for ladies

I admit this is a dumb question but here goes. Our daughter got married this weekend. As part of getting "gussied up" I had acrylic put on my finger nails. I have gotten many compliments from friends, employees and customers. I have decided it might be fun to keep it on for awhile and heck I paid allot of money for these things,. The problem is I can't peel the plastic coating off brass or paper off lasered items. Has anyone ever had this done and did you figure out a way to peel coated items?

I cringe at what some of the jokesters on this forum might say to this question but in desperate times you ask desperate questions or something of that sort.

Thanks ladies!
Dee

I'm no female nail expert. Stop it , just because my name is Bruce....

When I have difficult to remove plastic on metal to remove, I take a small butane torch similar to a lighter and heatup the back side. Seems to loosen and keep plastic coating from breaking.

When using the heat press, i'll heat up the protective plastic until pliable.

Hi Dee

Hope the wedding was fun, we are dissapointed we missed it. Send us some photos we would love to see you both all gussied up.

I asked our office girl how she does it and she said that she grabs the corner with her thumb and rubs it towards her two or three times to lift the plastic off.

I have had them in the past ( however, no good for giving back scratches I have been told) and it was just a matter of getting used to them, before I could do the normal things like use the computer keyboard without making mistakes.

You can google "Plastic Razor Blade" and get some good returns.

Fake nails have blunt edges while real nails have sharper edges and varying thickness. Just guessing, but you might want to try taking a nail file and file the edges from "underneath" just slightly to create a sharper edge. (You don't want to muss up the purty nail polish on top, right? ;-) )

With the sharper edge you can then use your new nails as tools, aka scrapers, to be able to peel the film off. The sharper edge should be just enough to wedge under the film.

Dee,

My shop is a couple doors down from a nail shop. I'll have them done and experiment for you. I'll get back to you. Do you think candy apple red would be a good color on me? >.<

David,
I think that might be a bit too drastic. Why don't you try fuchsia? Make sure you get square tips not round. As Kathy noted it will take a day or two to get used to them.

I will be anxiously awaiting your test results. You could be the guy responsbile for changing the way women in the engraving work force appear. A hero you would be! On top of that maybe Peter would get a good back scratching! You would then be a double hero!

Dee,

I liked the ideas of the square tips, but just couldn't decide on color, so I went crazy. Do you like?

David,
All I see is a red x in a box. I think your link is bad. My fingers are crossed that you will get it fixed.
