Another Zappa lover? Do you like his early stuff or later.. I got to see him live once.....

Was fond of Apostrophe, Dynamo Humm, and Joes Garage as well as shut up and play yer guitar box set..... I have lots of other stuff too, but those would be my tops from his collection. I even have a Baby Snakes picture disk :)

I've been on a BarberShop kick lately. Anyone else like that? My likes tend towards songs as opposed to groups. But I like James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Scorps, Stryper, Bon Jovi, Little Big Town, Rockapella, Nylons, Kiss, Harry Connick Jr..... to name a few. But I don't necessarily like every song those groups play. I tend to make mixed CD's.

If you like the Nylons acapella, you will love this group. Return 2 Zero. They perform on the Disney grounds daily. We have two of their CD's and love them....

Their website is here.....

http://www.return2zero.net/buy.htm

Here is a broadband video of them in action at Disney....Excellent group. This should only be downloaded with Broadband as it is 15 megs....Only takes a half a min to save, but if you have dial up it will take forever......

They open for the Beauty and the beast show...and act like staff doing a mic check....then start to play with the crowd....

http://www.return2zero.net/video/Return2Zero_video_broadband.wmv

When it asks you what to do, save it to your computer, when it is done just click open, or double click the file. it plays on Windows Media. If you have XP you should have no problem playing it.

Go to the gallery on their website for smaller bandwidth files to download....

Brian,

I'm a big fan of Barbershops myself. It seems like it's always been around me in some ways, but I've never participated myself other than hangin' out with the boys when they practice down the street.

I remember the days in grade school when we all stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance with our hand over our hearts. We could have kicked that up a notch by following it with the playing of this barbershop rendition of the Star Spangled Banner over the PA system.

Brian,

Dweezil Zappa, is touring, playing his Dad's music. Haven't heard him myself, but he's getting good reviews.

I understand that he is a pretty good muscian.

I didn't know he was playing his old man's stuff. I'll have to keep an eye out for him....

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi,

No Country Music Fans? I'm waiting for Garth to return...Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Sara Evans, Faith & Tim, Brad Paisley. Not just a country fan, I have seen Blink 182-Good Charlotte (have teenagers and went to concerts with them)! Love the Beatles, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Big Band Era stuff!

As an old pro musician and horn player, my preferences tended to run toward groups like Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Tower of Power and Bill Chase (who like others left us way to early!).

However, I have varied tastes and like a little something in each genre. Still enjoy a lot of old standards and big band as I grew up listening to much of it (Ya know....forced to watch Lawrence Welk with the family!).

BTW David and Brian, my son just saw Dweezil recently in LA and being a Zappa fan really enjoyed the show.If you liked Frank, it's probably worth checking out.

As a shameless plug (am I allowed?) for my son....as if he didn't have enough on his plate, has opted to do a radio show on the Internet Tuesday nights from 6 to 8 PM PST. The station is on all of the time and when a live DJ is not on, a robot DJ handles requests from the playlist so you can basically program the show!

The station is Headcase Radio. They feature a real eclectic mix of stuff from Gnarls Barkley to Tim Robbins singing El Paso Texas. :-)

Of course my son trys to please the old man by playing a lot of the older classic rock and for Fathers Day did a special 2 hour show where he played a many of my favorites and things he grew up listening to. Since he has a Podcast set up where he archives the shows, I was able to download the entire show as an MP3 file so I get to enjoy it whenever I want! ;-)

You can see his library at Innersanctum.com and if you see anything you like, tune in Tuesday night and request it. He shows his e-mail address as well as Yahoo messenger for requests so he can usually get them on fairly quickly. Jump on there and give him a hard time, it'll do him good! :-)

Brian, I never saw him live, but saw him on a local TV show in Detroit in the 60s. He and the Mothers were jumping around making music on "found" instruments (buckets, vacuum cleaner, plumbing pipes, etc...)

I lean toward the late 60s, early 70s albums (Hot Rats is my all time favorite), but like the later stuff too. I don't remember hearing a song of his I didn't like.

Thinking about zappa reminded me that I forgot to mention Cream as one of my favorite bands. (maybe thinking about "Hot Rats" triggered a memory of "Pressed Rat & Warthog" :-)  )

Peter,

It was only a matter of time, before someone put primal scream therapy to music.

Well...I think it's music. :-)

Chuck,

Someone mentioned you like the Beatles. :-)

Here are my favorite Beatles albums:

1) Rubber Soul

2) The White Album

3) Abbey Road (side 2).

David,
I have NO idea how you got the impression I liked the Beatles.

But if I did,

Abbey Road would top the list of my favorite albums. Both sides, but yes side two particularly. When I was but a teenager, I would play "I want you" over and over again.
Other Beatle albums that would classify as my favorites are of course Sgt. Pepper and then Let it Be.
Did you know that Abbey Road was almost never recorded? George Martin had had enough of them by then due to the fighting, but they said they wanted to do one last record.... they pleaded. Finally Martin gave in on the condition they did it the "old" way and just had fun.... I guess that is why it is so damned good.

But I digress. Whatever gave you the idea I like the Beatles? B-)  B-)
