Just curious if there is a way/method to engrave the outside of a ring using a rotary engraver?
Thanks.

If you're talking a wedding band.....it can be done but tricky.
I have done them on my Wizzard and the pantograph machine. A ring jig is a must. I haven't done many of them and try not to for the following reasons:
After each letter is engraved the ring has to be turned and the next letter spacing is eyeballed. Spacing could easily get off. ...
Not all rings have the same width around the band and when you turn the clamp one side might not fit snuggly and will want to drop down with any pressure.
I suppose a jig could be made for the rotary on the pantograph but I haven't done it.

Just as easy as engraving a baby cup.
I use an inside vise to hold the ring.

I did I bit more research, and it looks as if this thingymajiggie might work for rings:

Rotary attachment at the top of the list.
"...with the new Vision Rotary Attachment, you can engrave around the entire circumference! "

You've got to be kidding.
Let me do an ROI on that and see how many rings I'll have to sell before I pay for it...... done. Too many.
LOL

One key to establishing a niche market, is the willingnes to buy a piece of equipment, nobody else in your area has.
That piece of equipment could be a shear, or safety saw, capable of cutting larger pieces than anyone else in town, or a cutter grinder, making you the "go to" person, for rotary engraved metal.
Being the only game in town, let's you set the only price in town. :-)
