Full Version: Centering items

Hi again all,

Well I throught I would throw this one out to the Corel gurus out there. Is there a way to select two object and center and item between the two without grouping them.

For example. If I want to center a line of text between two other lines of text, I know I can group the two outside lines and then center the last line. But if one of the two I am using as top or bottom is more than 1 line, the centering gets messed up. Maybe at this point its just me that has messed up this question.

Good night all, I'm going to bed.

Can you draw a rectangle from the bottom of the upper text to the top of the lower text? Then you can select the text's and the rect and center horizontally. Then select just the rect and the 3rd text line and center both ways. (for me, I press the letter C then E).

That's the easiest way I can think of, but it might not be exact.

Josh,
If I understand what you are asking.....just select "all" using the pick tool either by double clicking or by dragging, then hit "C"....and everything will align to center.
If you want to align to a specific object, you will need to select first the object that you want to center "to", then, holding the shift key select the "other" object and again hi the letter "C"
If it is just text, use the text centering tool on the tool bar.

I hope I helped....

Centering horizontally is the easy solution. I'm trying to center vertically, the e key.

And the square is the method that we currently use. I was just wondering if there was a shortcut key.

So many kewl features, not enough time to use them all.

How about if you begin with the 3 lines of text being one object then use the text tools to center. If you have to break apart use "control K".

Josh,

If I'm following you, that's what Distribute does.
---Select all three text objects
---Arrange>Align & Distribute>Align & Distribute
---then the Distribute tab from the dialog
---check the Extent of selection radio button
---check the center horizontal button(top row)

the middle object will be centered between the unmoved left & right objects.

Is that what you mean?

One version of Corel had a hot key for this, but I don't think that has been carried over to newer versions of Corel(?).

That's what I need. Distribute to the center on the left. The short-cut to distribute would be to use the shift key plus the other normal key, i.e. center veritcally would be shift + E or horizontally, shift + C. There is a map of the shortcut keys by

To print keyboard shortcuts

Josh,

Thanks, I always wondered where those short cuts are listed, now I know! I printed them off, now I can figure out the ones I use all the time! :-)

Thanks

Aleta
