Full Version: Computer help-off topic

A while back my laser computer started having all the jobs in reverse alpha order when I went to open a job. Instead of the sort order starting with 'a', it begins with 'z'. Now I've tried everything and googled my fingers off and just gave up.
Today I start up my desk system and the same thing is happening so my Irish/Italian parts can't just let it go. There's got to be a setting somewhere in Windows that can change this. Yes, if i right click the folder and choose 'arrange by name' it will change the order back to a-z but it doesn't stay that way. The very next time it's back in reverse.
Are there any real geeks out there that can tackle this small but PIA problem?

Hi Paul
On the top of the list where it says name of file. Click on the word name and the list will sort by the names of the files. To reverse the order click it twice. You can use any of the headings to sort the files by.

I wished it was that easy. That was the first thing I tried and while it works, it doesn't stay that way the very next time I go to open a file.
It's a weird thing that no one has been able to explain. I don't even know how it happened, just turned it on 1 day and it had changed.
It's really not a big deal just aggravating. Thanks for the help.

maybe give this a try:

when you go to open a file, before you click on it to open, RIGHT CLICK somewhere in the white space of that window and click on "Arrange Icons By" and then click on "Name."

see if that changes it back to alpha.

good luck,
phyllis

Hi Paul
Try going into windows explorer and setting the file folder where you have the work to the way you want it. Then go to settings and save the folder layout. Then see if it solves the problem.

I agree with Bill, use Windows Exlorer to set up your flder by Name. Clicking on the header bar (right on the word "Name") and each time you click, it will toggle between forward and reverse.

Then go to Tools, Folder Options, and click on the View tab. Then click on Apply To All Folders button. Then OK to close the dialog, then File, Close to close explorer (don't click on the upper right "X" to close in this case, file File Close, just in case).

Also just in case, maybe try doing this with all your other programs closed.

If all else fails try to use the restore defaults option in explorer/tools/folder options

Hey, thanks. It appears, this works! I'll see what happens after a few reboots and a few days and it it sticks, I'll drink a few brews for all who helped.
So, are you all geek wanna be's? :D
