Full Version: Print driver crashing Corel

Hi all,
AAAGGHHHH!!! I am soo frustrated, I am pulling my hair out (almost)
I am trying to make a 6" ruler. I have made them before. I have never had this problem. I need it as a sample to show the chairwoman of the board so they can determine if it's something they want. So I kind of really need this.
Here's the problem. Everytime I try to print this whether it's on even a laser printer or my laser engraver. The "preflight" tab just keeps spinning. It's like it gets stuck in that pre-flight mode. And when I try to cancel the print, all of Corel crashes. I don't get it. I don't want to tell them that I can't do this job. But if I can't make one, I sure can't make 200. And I need to give them something soon because their open house is the 14th.
I've tried rebooting and I have tried it on several computers.
Thanks for the help!!
Becky

Becky;

I'm not sure what you have tried so far, but here's a couple of things to try:

Do you use "Print Selection" when you print? There may be something that is not visible on the screen that is causing your problem. Select what you want printed and click on Print. On the print dialogue box, click on the Selection radio button in the Print Range area. I ALWAYS use print selection. It eliminates a lot of potential problems!

Use print selection to print just a line (circle, square) not associated with the ruler (draw a new one) just to verify it's not the file itself.

Go to the Advanced tab (if you can get there) on the print dialogue box and then click on Settings. Uncheck everything under "Issues to check for". You may want to "print" something other than the ruler (maybe create a single) to get to these settings. I thought they might be in the main options settings but I couldn't find it.

Delete a portion of the ruler and try printing. Do this in stages, start by deleting most of the data and then printing. If it prints, keep adding portions until you find the spot that is causing the problem. If it is locking up before it gets started printing, this procedure should go quickly.

Move the graphic to a different part of the drawing space and try printing.

Group the objects and try printing.

Copy the graphic to a new CorelDraw file or downsave it to a previous version, close CorelDraw, open the file and try printing again.

Just thought of another..... One of my customer's is running version 7 of CorelDraw. She was having a similar problem and I isolated it for her by process of elimination and it turned out to be BMP graphic that she had imported and then reduced it size dramatically. Could that be what you have done with this new version of the ruler? The fix was to resize the graphic in PhotoPaint and then re-import it.

Do you have problems printing anything else? If not, I would redraw the ruler and try again. Attached is a ruler I drew in X3. Nothing special, just playing around.

Becky,
I have had a similar problem...and I pulled what little hair I have left out.....( thank goodness for epoxy, I was able to glue it back)
But as has been pointed out, the problem was not with the driver or with Corel, but with the file itself.
Try recreating a new file and see what happens.

You know, there are a few things in life that come along every now and then that just remind you how great life is...icing on the cake if you will. Not profound things that make you so thankful for good health or family because those should be sought and found and every day. I'm talking about the little things that are just the lagniappe of your day.
Some of those things for me include:

Seeing a bluebird in my backyard
Being the first one to open a new jar of peanut butter
Hearing Katrina and the Waves "Walking on Sunshine" on the radio (not on my ipod because that doesn't count)
walking out of a customer's office with their business in hand
and my personal favorite of today:
banging my head against a wall trying to solve a small stupid problem, coming here and presenting the problem and having several friends I haven't met yet help me fix it.
That is just the total happy ending to a day that was already pretty happy.
Thank you thank you thank you a thousand times thank you.....
The solution to the problem:
the logo the customer sent me...AAAGGHHH. LOL
I deleted it and the ruler printed...unbelievable.
I did manage to get a logo that didn't crash everything and all is well.
I will sleep easy tonight.
Thank you all again for checking in to this forum on a Saturday.
This forum and it's members totally ROCK!!

Chuck-
And you really have to remember to look for those little things especially on the days when it's things that are equally small and insignificant (rulers and phone companies) causing you so much grief!!
Thanks
Becky
