Have any of you used "Exclusive Plates" from www.exclusivefindings.com ?

They offer a number of ornamental plates in a few finishes.

I received a mailer but haven't seen the plates in person. They look good on paper :-)

David,
I used to use Exclusive Findings but found them very difficult to deal with. I would call to place an order and the person in the department that handled that item wasn't in. No one else could take the order. It would often take 3-4 calls to get my order placed. Sometimes it would take weeks to get an order in.

They used to produce allot of plates for Things Remembered. I don't know if they still do. I haven't tried to use them in about 5 years. If you give them a try please let me know how you fare. Their prices were excellent and if they straightened out their service I would try them again.

Dee,

The plates in the brochure I received look like the type of things you'd see at TR. A lot of the type with faux screws. They look like the type of plates that are kind of hollow with the spongey adhesive on the back.

I would prefer something a bit more solid. If I could get to the website, I'd take a closer look. Must be maintained by the same elusive person who you attempted to order from :-)

Believe it or not, those phony screw heads sell well. I do not like them but the customers seem to love a screw on piece that they just stick on, duhhh.

The ones we used were brass plates with slightly downward formed edges and a screw head formed upward impressed into the metal. The sponge adhesive backing was very thin with a really good grab.

Nice pieces, hard to get.

Would anyone have some pictures? Are they plain or do they have printing of some sort on them? Sorry so many questions, but when you start talking about metal plates I get interested. :)

I'll have to ask Wifey about maybe having a catalog that I can scan for pictures. If memory serves correctly the ones we bought did not have any borders or other fancy stuff except for the screws. A touch of memory says that there may have been others with the fancy stuff.

We now have from another supplier, silver only, a highly embossed plate, don't know yet how it will sell. I also did a PLT file of it and engraved brass plates to match. Also did a B/W bitmap and lasered some black/brass plates. They look quite good. (The engraved ones take something like 4 to 5 minutes to engrave, but are done in a batch on a spare machine so labor was not an issue in making them.)

David,

I got the same flyer and had a nice visit with the owner of the company. He seemed very eager for our business. He said that their past business model had been very focused on larger users, but they are shifting their business model to cater to the smaller shops as well. I am not convinced that they have the customer service staff in place to handle us yet. Time will tell.

I told him that I have been on a perpetual search for a supplier of quality ornate plates that I can use to embellish wooden boxes, steins, etc. He indicated that they have hundreds of different plates. He is sending me their complete catalog with a sample pack. It may arrive as soon as tomorrow. I will give you a report.

By the way, their website is currently being redeveloped.

David,

I think there are many of us who have a demand for that type of product. If we can't find a viable supplier, why don't we pool our resources and come up with a few designs and have a supplier produce some exclusive die struck plates. You can be the banker! :)

Why don't we survey to see what the interest might be.

What size would be a standard?

This is not that big of project if there can be some consensus on design and a relatively decent volume. We have had many jobs custom cut or we can die cut ourselves if the volume warrents an in house die.

I am not sure what the general concensus would be, but I would use plates that have enough room for at least a name and date. Another popular option would be a plate that could be monogrammed.

Brian,

I've invited the owner, Bob Terino, to the forum to answer our mounting questions. I talked to Bob's daughter, Wendy Barricelli (I just love those good Italian names:) who says, beside the web site being down, they're in the process of moving their manufacturing operation.

Sounds like they have a tiger by the tail. I hope they get things ironed out soon.

I've never seen as many varieties of ornamental plates before and would like to see a reliable supply.

Update:

I received a call from Wendy Barricelli, who says they'll be moving their operation over the next couple of days. She assured me that her father, Bob, is itching to come to the forum and answer our questions.

Just a little more patience folks :-)

Have you heard anything from Exclusive Findings?

Dee,

Actually, I received a call saying that after their move, they would find time to come to the forum to answer questions.

The website is still down. You would think an "Under Construction" page would be better than nothing.

I'll follow up with another call and let you know what I find.

Dee,

This replay is from a different David. I received their catalog last week and the selection was nicer than any I have seen. I am still looking for a company that has a few more choices of 2 and 3-dimensional die-struck plates.

The price list they sent with the catalog was geared for the wholesalers. Minimum order quantity was set at 2,500. I am hoping that they have, or are, working on a price list that will lend itself more to our quantity purchases.

Dave,

If you have custom metal stuff that you need, we work regularly with metal fab houses that produce those types of spec. product. Let me know what you need and we will see if we can make it work for lower quantities.

Dee,

I just got off the phone with Bob Terino of Exclusive Findings.

The move is taking longer than expected and a personal matter hasn't helped. Bob's wife was involved in an accident which severed her leg. Bob's been to the hospital daily.

Bob hopes to be able to visit the forum by mid-month. Exclusive Findings (EF) will be an exhibitor at trade shows. Atlantic City and Las Vegas (ARA) being the two he mentioned.

EF's early customers included Things Remembered and New Hermes (Gravograph). Those companies carried a limited number of EF plates.

EF's goal is to bring a wider variety of plates directly to the end users.

Bob tells me that recent events have made for an extremely rocky ride, but EF will emerge as a force to be reckoned with.

I tend to believe him.

I spoke to Bob Terino today. He tells me that he'll visit the forum next week to answer any of your questions.

I'm looking forward to it.
