I went to a Catholic bookstore this evening and they had a sign that said "Go ahead and wish me Merry Christmas. I won't be offended." Kind of amazing that they felt the need to put up that sign.

Merry Christmas to all and a happy new year too.

Such a daring move...wishing anyone a Merry Christmas.... ;)

And a great "leveler" is to thank them for the "Merry Christmas" and wish them a "Happy Chanukah"....... Breaks the ice very nicely. :D

Gee, I didn't mean to spark a debate on the political correctness of giving holiday wishes, nor omit Christmas which we personally celebrate. However, dealing worldwide, we have the pleasure of dealing with many customers and associates that celebrate in their own way.

Perhaps most of us here celebrate Christmas, but it's hard to overlook Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan or one of the biggies in South Florida, Noche Buena...and let's not forget Boxing Day, Victory Day or even those who choose to celebrate Winter Solstice....all falling at this time of the year.

While we don't suggest that anyone should celebrate the same way we do, we do feel it's important to celebrate that holiday which is important and meaningful to you. If that is being politically correct, then so be it, but the wishes are sincere.

With that being said, we do hope everyone enjoys, and may the New Year bring peace and harmony to countries and forums everywhere! :-)

Steve,

Merry Christmas. I do not follow that holiday but it is still the wishes that count.

Happy Chanukah, and happy holidays, whatever it may be for everyone out there.

(I do not believe the spelling the spell checker gave for Chanukah. I know that lately the c has been dropped, but a double k?) [IE Spell]

Don't know if you follow Canadian news at all, but there's been a small kafuffle up here about a judge who insisted that a Christmas tree be taken down in the courtroom because it might offend some people. There was a huge uproar, Ontario's political leader stated publicly that she's misunderstanding the concept of multiculturalism, even the leader of local a Muslim community thinks she's nuts. Shortly on the heels of that story, there was another one about a school where they are celebrating their multiculturalism. Children from all faiths are learning about each others' traditions, they're putting on a Holiday pageant where they all perform tunes from each religion represented, they're helping each other decorate in the appropriate manner. Just goes to show ... sometimes the kids understand better than the grownups do. ;-)

So, Happy Holidays to all! (angel) Not trying to be 'politically correct.' I just feel that statement is appropriate, because I truly do hope everyone has a great holiday, whichever one they're celebrating. ;-)

Hi Steve,

Sorry if I came off badly to you. I certainly was not criticizing you specificaly...I was being critical of the fact that people can't just wish a Merry Christmas without fear of offending someone...I should have had it as a seperate post, or just not mentioned it at all.

I am just personally tired of the whole Christmas holiday being hijacked by the politicaly correct etc..... "ya can't do this...you must do that"....etc... I guess hijacking the thread to voice my opinion wasn't much better eh?

Absolutely nothing against you, or your well wishes....

Heck, you're the first one to wish anyone well for the season.....Don't you win something for that??????

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to both You and Angie....I hold our friendship in high esteem, and wish nothing but the best to you and yours for the holiday season.

Thanks Brian...no problem, I still like ya! :-) Actually, I didn't mean to sound defensive, and I certainly understand where you're coming from.

However, in our case it wasn't so much as not trying to offend, but more of an all inclusive wish that could be applied to everyone regardless of their personal choices and the way in which they celebrate this wonderful time of year.

Besides, we didn't overlook your wishes entirely...while it may be hard to see on your monitor, our Dry Erase Stand down in the bottom corner of the "O" has a tile that does say Merry Christmas! :-)

I sincerely do hope that you and yours has a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year!..and I expect our friendship would stay intact no matter how we said it to each other! ;-)

I must admit; I am HIGHLY offended by all of this.

You mention several celebrations, of varying cultures, beliefs and religions....

But - Equal Time!

...You have not mentioned FESTIVUS!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festivus

(In case someone actually took me seriously: I'm not really offended.)

Merry Christmas everyone!

B-)
