Lisa,
I booked our tickets today. We are going on Saturday the 24th at 7:00 pm.
I have the sound track on my ipod right now and it is GREAT! Have you heard it yet? George Martin still has it. B-)

I bought my husband the cd set for Christmas! As soon as he puts a cd player in my truck... Otherwise I'll have to my daughter's headset!

Any new news on the location of the party?

Maybe in the alley between the convention center and the Hilton, we will bring in some Burger King Jr.'s.

Chris,

Still looking at a few options. What I thought was a cost-effective solution at the Hilton, after seeing the numbers, turned out to be a bit pricey.

We'll lock something in soon, but it may be away from the Convention Center.

Stay tuned.

I submit we revisit the Captains Lounge. "ALMOST" everyone from the forum will be at the Convention center on the day of the Beach Party. It would be convenient for everyone to be able to just stay there as opposed to going back to whereever they are staying, and then go out again to another place in who knows where.

Just my two cents. Want change?

Chuck,

I'll look at that scenario again. The reception room was originally thought to be a better deal, but didn't turn out to be.

I placed a call to the Imperial Palace just to check it out ( I hope I did not overstep my bounds ) and found they can do a reception for about $35 per person. It would include several food choices and a cash bar for 100 people. We have stayed at the IP several times and there are good and bad things about the place. It is old and shows the years of wear and tear. The good is it is on the Monorail, cheap, on the Strip and we have found the the couple of receptions we have been to there to be nice. I would be happy to place a follow up call and get more specific pricing if you want me to.

Just trying to help,

Thanks,

Tom,

There's no such thing as "overstepping" here, brother!

How far is the IP from the CC? Do they have and ICS so that DGL can MC the BP?

Just curious what the difference in price would be if it's 50 people instead of 100? Based on the other thread with the list of people I'm guessing you guys might have a crowd more in the 50 person range than 100 person.

Tom,

As Cody says, no such thing as overstepping bounds. I appreciate your legwork.

We're back to considering the Captain's Lounge (CL) in the Hilton. Primarily, because of its location, but also because (as an example) once we add tax and gratuity to a $35 per person buffet, we're close to $44 per person.

Last year, we had 68 people. I doubt we'll hit 100 this year.

My swarthy high school math skills say the CL will run $50 per person.

We haven't added anyone to "The List" since we fell into a state of indecision over a venue. I'd expect that activity to pick up again, once we make a firm decision.

Another consideration.

When you think about it (and I have) the odds of winning a door prize, in such a "cozy" group are very, very good.

Makes the cost of the Beach Party a worthy investment. :-)

Cody, the Imperial Palace is about a 5 minute monorail ride from the convention center. It is at the same stop as Harrah's.

This is the link to the menuhttp://www.imperialpalace.com/group_meetings.php?subid=51es and pricing. There is a 25 person min.

The Hilton does have its advantages and David your right, even at $50 with the door prizes is very fair.

Thanks,
Tom

David,
I have a call into you but here is the scoop. As per our discussion earlier today I delved deeper into the Captains Lounge. Given our needs I do not think we could have a quality event for less than $75.00 per person, unless we did the sit down dinner that you had suggested.
As we discussed the sit down dinner has several limitations for mingling and for folks that arrive late. So.....
After reading about Toms idea of the Imperial Plaza I called as well and it turns out to be a VERY good deal.
In speaking with Misty in the catering department, we would have a dinner cost of $34.5 per person based on the attached menu. ( The price on the attached menu says $33.00 but prices went up this year) We need a guarantee of 20 people ( not a problem ). This INCLUDES the room ( The Plaza Room) for 3 hours. Additional hours are $150.00 per.
The Plaza Room also satisfies the need for beverages. There is a lounge right outside the door to the room where folks can go for the beverage of their choice. ( or to buy me drinks) B-) So no worries there.
For sound a wirless mic cost $125.00 for the evening with a $40.00 set up fee. A hard wired mic and lecturn costs $40.00 for the evening
All of this of course incurs the 25% tax and gratuity fee. Based on the 52 people that are coming this brings the cost to $47.09 per person. ( I suggest rounding that up to $50.00 for ease)
The Imperial Palace is on the monorail line, although according to Misty a bit more than a 5 minute ride. Even so, it makes getting there easy. (I know last year Cody rented a car, so alternatively 52 of us could pile into Cody's car and ride for free :O )
With all of that said, I submit we go with Toms idea and go with the Imperial Palace. Room set up is included also and Misty said, and I quote
quote:
We will make the room beautiful for you

Chuck,
Do tell me, can you find good Lavosh in paradise? :-) Apparently it's not southern cusine, because I don't have a clue what it is. If it's in the cheese & bread catagory then maybe its a cracker? Good job on the sleuthing. I'm sure Joe & I can find our way on the monorail. They have cheesecake! :P (Insert dancing jig)

Lavosh is Armenian Matzoh.... :>

Lavosh
SUBMITTED BY: Sally

"Good with soup, as an appetizer or as a snack. Lavosh is an Armenian unleavened flat bread."

INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup water
1 egg white
2 tablespoons butter, melted

2 egg whites, beaten
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
In a large bowl, stir together, flour, sugar and salt. Add water, 1 egg white and melted butter; mix well to make a stiff dough. Knead until dough is smooth, about 5 minutes.
Divide dough into 10 balls. Roll each ball on lightly floured surface until paper thin. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, until browned.
