I believe I have finally gotten the hang of this granite engraving. After months of trial and error, a few boxes of tile, and reading one what you fine folks have suggested. It has finally happened. Here is the latest project that I completed. I am happy with the outcome and just wanted to share. Thanks to all of you for your inspiration and guidance.

Nice job! What is the finished dimension? How long did it take to lazer ? Is the tile in the upper left corner slightly lighter than the one immediatley to the right? I seem to be having the same issues with mural work, it is very slight, but it is there. My guess it is the laser itself, not the stone or something I'm doing different.

Thanks kind sir. I believe it was you who told me here about 6 weeks ago--become the consumate expert at whatever niche you go after. Good piece of advice. I have spent many, many hours (and a load of scrap stone) figuring out what works.
I have had a measure of success going after the market I focused on. If you're interested, here's where I'm headed with it.
I have been forturnate to have been involved with some world class stone projects, mostly mosaic work. I live in a town in Illinois where Pres Lincoln held his first debate, declared himself and abolishonist--he even practiced law here. Last year I restored a Civil War monument here in town and it came out stunning. Last week a developer has broken ground on a 600 million $ project here. I was invited to the groundbreaking. I prepared a small commemorative plaque, black marble, gold edges, their logo in gold. I snapped a photo with the senators, mayor, developer, et al--ran back to the studio and imaged it to the plaque and returned it to the developer. Needless to say they were all stunned.
Lincoln is a big deal here. The state of Ill has grant money to make Illinoians aware of Lincoln for whatever the reason. Look at Photomosaic.com--find the Lincoln mosaic. I have received permission from the artist (for a fee of course) to duplicate this. Imagine this pic, 15 feet wide, 22 feet tall in the entrance to a very unique development. I have devised a mounting system that would make the surface perfectly flat (has to be for photographic) and mobile to an extent. I'll keep you posted on the progress, but Lincoln's seqentenial is in 2009 and the question to me has been, can it be completed and installed by then? Guess what my answer was....

Thank you for the compliments. I do have a problem with the first piece always coming out a little lighter than the others. I doesn't seem to matter where I start, it is always the first piece. The overall dimension is 24 x 36. I have sold eight of these so far, next weekend is the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Banquet and hope to get some interest on a few more. Again thank you

How long does it take to laser this image? The idea Harvey proposes is right on I think. Perhaps it would be wise to laser the first piece to scrap or wood or something first and then set up to do the real thing. May I ask what price range these sell for? If you don't want to publish that here, please pm me.

I don't mind at all. It took about 45 minutes per piece. Then I mounted it to a 1/2 inch piece of plywood and made the cherry frame. I sell them for $900 here in Cheyenne. I have a whole set of nine photos in the series that I use. I am really hoping that the banquet turns out really well for these. I am only a year into this and still have quite a bit of the learning curve to get through. Slowly but surely, trial and error I am getting there.

Thanks for the information and "bravo"--nice job. Hope I can do as well this year. You've got me here, this is really my first two months. Sure is fun though--at least so far. I also own a floor covering biz--it's no fun at all, nothing but hard work and slim margins, especially on the larger jobs. Good luck and thanks again.
