Full Version: Laser cut dye sub material

I have a project that I need to dye sub an insert to go inside a PDU resin trophy. I need to be able to cut it on my laser due to time constraints from the customer. What materials are available that I could cut then sub? It needs to be very thin, otherwise I would use 1/8" hardboard.

I can sub Romark "mates" but I don't know if they are laserable and their support is closed already.

Also, does anyone know offhand if PDU has templates for their resin plaques so I can cut a very accurate insert? I can draw it but why do that if there is one already made?

Thanks!
Gary

Gary,

If the shape is relatively simple, could you cut "Mates" material with an X-acto knife?

Alternatively, even if the shape is more complex, the material can be cut with a vinyl plotter.

I'm not sure if Mates contains PVC, which is why I'd be leary of laser cutting the shapes.

Thanks David!

I just did a bit more research on the rowmark website and found msds sheets for mates. As it turns out, it is the same material as the LaserLights (Polyethylene Terephthalate) which tells me it is safe to laser cut my shapes with it. That is great news because it is thin, adhesive backed and white so I should get a great subbed image.

Gary,

We'll have to create a self-help folder. :-)
