Is it just me, or does the forum seem like swimming through mud today?

For me on the east coast it is as slow as molasses in our northern friend's back yards.

This has happened twice before but was instant access in California, I blamed it on a bottleneck somewhere in the middle of the country. Other sites that are housed in the east are fast but my DSL keeps losing sync and the Internet connection occasionally goes down for a minute.

In essence, I do not know if it is the cross country Internet at this time, or us (Aren't I tons of help?)

All;

There's a new virus (European Storm Video E-Mail (Part 2)) that appears to be causing problems:

But the internet, overall, appears healthy:

Running a Visual Trace route, it appears it is GO Daddy. Possibly an addition to the shared server eating up the resources?

This has happened several times that I can remember, but was fixed by the next day....hopefully it will be corrected by tomorrow.

Boy....this reminds me of the cursed dial up days.............Not enjoying the dejavu.

The EE server has been great, but this has been the longest case of server-drag for me as well. I have run into the same thing multiple times on other free engraving forums. It is one of the many obstacles justifying the switch over to a dedicated server, or at least a virtual dedicated server.

The bottom line, it's time to move on! I think it is about time for David to take a leap of faith and take EE to a subscription site so that he is afforded the opportunity to avoid this situation in the future.

As members, it's time for us to step up and show our support for this venue of valued communication. I just paid $300.00 for a local civic organization membership, knowing that I wouldn't reap the same benefit as that I get from the information gained from this forum. Based on that figure, I don't need to tell you what I'd be willing to pay to keep in touch with all of you awesome folks.

I talked to Go Daddy.

They performed some MySQL maintenance, earlier in the day, but nothing that would cause a slow down.

They suggested the possibility of problems with routers (across the country/world) that lead to the server.

No server problems from the Go Daddy side.

At this point (12:42 am) PST, speed is back up to normal.

David,
It was slow here as well, but today ( Saturday) it is working fine.

Dave,

I was fortunate enough, through "luck of the draw" to have the Go Daddy online support team leader field my call.

I asked if there would be a benefit to being on a virtual dedicated server.

His answer surprised me.

I was told that, even though there would be fewer sites on those servers, they generally see much more intensive use and the potential for disruptions may actually be greater there.

I was also told that all servers are monitored 24/7/365 and "balanced" over a number of servers, to ensure that no single server is overwhelmed.

Things seem to be running better today.
